F*** THIS GAME.

I have been beaten. I barely ever quite games unless I'm bored of them, but that has all changed today. I loved Bioshock, it's one of my top 10 favorite games, and i had heard that it was essentially a ripoff of System Shock 2.

So what do i do? I download it, and use the SS2 tool which adds a ton of patches, graphical updates, all that good stuff, set affinity to 1 core, and get on my way. I swear I have been running around with about 5 health, no ammo, food, money, or anything i could possibly use to ease my suffering.

I will admit i have grown up during this gaming generation where games hold your hand, and that system shock 2 even at the time was a damn hard game, but i wasn't expecting THIS. I can't even get to the part where Shodan is introduced, wherever that may be.

Just to end off, this game is good. It is really good, and i was enjoying myself despite getting my ass beat silly every second, but when i got to a point where all i had was 4 health, a wrench, and the next room had 2 sentry guns and one of those zombie things, i was done.

If you have any tips of how to actually do decent at this game, please share, i actually want to see what is hailed as one of the greatest antagonists of all time.

IT'S A HARD FUCKING GAME.

Fortunately, it's also quite good.

Your mantra should be 'conserve ammo conserve ammo conserve ammo'.

This is perfect. Take this advice and you should be set, or at least better off than before.

I think I'll fire up SS2 now, its been 3 months since I played it last.

Pull a perfectionist run for the first couple hours: quicksave incessantly, then if you use one bullet too many/take ANY damage, reload.

It really helps in games of this type.

This is why I don't play games of that type. I prefer challenging games sure, but not masochistic ones.

Easy mode, and start as a marine with as much strengh (lets you hit harder with the wrench) and weapon training as you can (forget energy weapons). As soon as you can upgrade the skills that let's you repair weapons (they break down fast) and research enemy's body parts (for extra damage).
Once you pass the first two decks that should be a relatively smooth ride to the end.

I finished that game on impossible :p

Use the wrench until you have no choice but to use guns. Reroll navy if you're not already playing as navy. Marine is too specialist gunnyman and psi-ops is nightmare mode. CONSERVE AMMO.

Oh system shock. You've claimed another victim. :)

Hehe...yeah..its a fantastic game, and not for the current baby-gamer generation. This is a game for men. I havent beaten it myself, but as far as I played it was one of the scariest games I have ever played.

The other mentionables being:

Resident Evil 1 (I was quite young)
Silent Hill, that damn radio..............
Realms of the Haunting (one of the seriously most unknown games ever, a fantastic and atmospheric first person horror adventure)
AvP play it on hard, pre save-patch.

Icame, welcome to the world of Bioshock's sociopathic big brother!
Save ammo, save often. It gets relatively easier once you're decetly levelled and equipped, relatively...

There's always `Easy' mode...
There is no easy, it says easy on the menu, but that isn't what you'll get served.

System Shock 2 isn't that hard. Play navy and make sure not to set off the alarms too much. Resurrections also made the game too easy in Bioshock but in SS2 they are balanced and sometimes you should just accept death instead of giving up or wasting too many resources. Medical tables are also pretty essential and you should try to be aware where the nearest one is as well as local safe spots.

This is what SHODAN has to say about this..

*coughs and grins*

... in all honesty though: This Taffer finds it very commendable that you'd go back to backtrack towards the roots of some of the best modern day story driven FPS out there. Keep trying. Your hardship will be rewarded.

And as a previous poster pointed out: Save. Save. Save. Quicksave and a collection of savegame slots are your best friend. Move slowly and considerate and you will make it through in one piece. Sort of.
