So a little background first:

I know how System Shock 2 is supposed to be this awesome game and all. I remember when it came out and everyone kinda went apeshit over it. I pretty much resigned myself to never playing it because at the time I figured I would never own a computer capable of playing it (a stupid assumption I know, but my old computer back then sucked ass even by 1999 standards). I pretty much force myself to read (and enjoy) the spoilers for it after it had been out for a while. A friend of mine from uni, got a it off eBay a couple of months ago. He burned a copy of it and gave the copy to me.

Now the game, as I expected, is really atmospheric, and parts of it make me jump out of my skin (lab monkeys anyone?).

The problem for me is with the audio. There are times when I'm in a part of the ship, and I hear something coming, but I can't ever tell where its coming from. At this point I being turning around wildly trying to see everything at once, and I inevitably die because one of those damned robots/androids comes around the corner behind me and suicides right next to me. Now I normally don't mind dieing a bunch of times, but for some reason, it seems that the audio is deliberately misleading me because I can't tell from which direction anything is coming from. I never use the resurrection chambers anymore because I'm short on nanites as it is.

I can't tell if this is an error introduced by the game being a copy or if the game is deliberately doing this. Did anyone else ever experience this problem? I really like the game except for this aspect of it and I really want to finish it.

I remember downloading some graphics and audio updates/mods for the game before I started playing, but from what I remember, the mod was supposed to fix the sound, not fuck it up. I guess I'll have to reinstall without the mods.

*sigh* I was pretty far in to game too. Oh well I guess.

Though I might try just reversing the audio channels just to see if that works.
