Tactics In Videogames

I've been playing a couple of games lately - Rainbow Six Vegas and SWAT 4, namely. I have noticed that tactics in videogames tend to boil down to shooting your enemy in the face or shooting them from above their head, and this has begun to annoy me a little bit, if only because when I pick up a tactical shooter, I want... tactics.

So, Escapists. A; How do you usually approach games with tactics? And B; does anyone know any games that are more tactically complicated than, say, choosing which door to enter?

A. Squads. Use your squads. They are your lifeblood and your instruments of pain.
B. Brothers in Arms games are phenomenal for a break from the typical "DURR! FIRE LIKE RAMBO!" FPS titles, namely the World War II ones.

Highly recommended.

I play MW2 with tactics - yeah, the game that was specifically built without them. It works about 75% of the time.

I usually try to sneak behind the enemy team (alone, teammates are retarded), kill a couple, run away, then come back another way and kill some more. However, if this keeps failing I'll get angry and just rush. That works 50% of the time, but I've gotten 11-killstreaks just from running straight down the middle of the map into the enemy base.

Ahh, nostalgia.

In Psi-Ops I generally try to stealth kill as many enemies as possible before finishing off the others (usually by TKing them into the air and shooting them)

if you want tactics and strategy play final fantasy tactics for the psx, if you want mindless shooting play every first person shooter ever made (i should be shot for how much i generalize things)

Total War. The battles in that can be excruciatingly tactical. It's one of the few games where numbers (or quality) of troops hardly count.

Well, basically, I always go for the most kick ass weapon available, in any game. Be it an 'I-eat-zombies-for-lunch' sword, or the missile launcher that makes the biggest explosion, leaving a room full of enemies completely decimated. Or if it's possible, I get a good sniping weapon and take out the enemies before they know what happened. It's especially fun to aim for whatever spot will yield the most entertaining kill. Ahh, carnage... :)

Trial and error, basically. Can't find out what does/doesn't work if you don't try it. And that's sometimes the most fun part of the game, the satisfaction you get from accomplishment.

For any tactics. Run away, then shoot, then run away, then shoot, I'm kind of a coward in a shooting fight :3. but that might be because its Saints Row 2 where when seeing for guys in Multiplayer, you might get your butt shot sooner or later...

I enjoy using some tactics in Batman: Arkham Asylum. I know you don't necessarily need to, but during the stealth sections it definitely pays off to play it extra sneaky.

As for shooters... well... I mean there's some tactics in MW 2 thanks to flashbangs and stun grenades I suppose. I've been playing BCBF2 lately and it's not so much tactical but then again, if a tanks coming your way or an apache attack helicopter, you gotta figure something out. I suppose the dynamics of that game allow some tactics. But generally it's just caos.
