I am a pretty massive Sonic fan, but I've felt very saddened by the lack of role Knuckles and Tails have had in the past games of Sonic the Hedgehog. The last time he had a completely necessary role was in Sonic Adventure 2. In Sonic Heroes and Shadow he was just a place filler, and in 06 he was just there period. Yes, those were awful games, and I'm all for making Sonic the main gameplay character, but Tails and Knuckles have been pushed into the background lately. It's really too bad.
I'm not saying that Knuckles or Tails need to have a whole segment of a game devoted to them, but maybe showing up in multiplayer racing like in the old days wouldn't be so bad.
In my personal opinion, Sonic should be the only playable character for the story mode for awhile. And that is what has been happening lately (Colors, Rush, Unleashed, etc.) but I miss Sonic having a contrasting character with him. Knuckles was less speedy, but could climb to areas Sonic couldn't, and Tails could fly (obviously). Their major differences bounced off each other, and I'm not talking about the whole KNUCKLES, WERE YOU TRICKED BY ROBOTNIK AGAIN? I mean a prideful character, essentially a side that Sonic doesn't have. And beyond side kick, Sonic seems to take Tails for granted these days, as many of us do. I don't mean make them have whole parts of levels devoted to them, but maybe just a side scrolling race or the like.
Maybe I'm just rambling, but I miss these guys. They've been with Sonic for a long time, and I'd like them to be credited at least. They don't need, and I don't want, them to be parts of the main GAMEPLAY, but maybe linking them more with the STORY would help a bit. Who knows?
