I'd try to convince them to bring a camera with them to know what I would be getting into, ask them to come back with the recording from the camera, and judge from there. If I can't, then I won't be going.

and screw the technology i'd run xenological studies for the US government. it's an untested field, and i'd write the authoritative work on the subject.
