I was playing Fallout 3 the other day, and I suddenly remembered there was a fast travel option.
No I'm not some sort of functional impaired numpty who can't hold a controller the right way round and doesn't know that you shouldn't get caught in front of the loud flashy end of a gun, I just enjoy walking in Fallout 3, probably far too much.
A lot of games have fast travel systems, and a lot of gamers use them (yes I was inspired to make this thread by the 'will you use fast travel in Skyrim' one) but what I want to know is your stories about not using fast travel.
For example, I once waited a full in-game two hours to watch the sun rise in Fallout 3, then did the same again to watch it set. And it was a lot better than I expected it to be. I'm not going to claim that in-game experiences can out-do real-world experiences (not yet anyway) but I was curious to see how close we were, and judging by Fallout, pretty darn close actually. The rest of the graphics may have their problems but they really put work into making that sun and sky look realistic.
So what have you done when you could have been fast travelling. Did you ever find a secret in a game because you decided to take the long route? Do you always take the opportunity for a nice walk in order to make it feel more realistic? Do you just enjoy the scenery? What games do you not fast travel in?
