Tales from the Capital Wasteland

Now, one of my absolute favorite things about Bethesda and Fallout 3 in particular is the amount of little easter eggs and hidden stories tucked away throughout the massive Capital Wasteland. Just because of the love of these little hidden things I set a marker way in the northwest Wasteland and have been wandering in it's general direction for a week, just hitting all the locations I could. Here's an example to get you guys started.

I stumbled upon a location called something along the lines of Forgotten Drainage Pipe. It was under a manhole and out of curiosity I climbed down and checked it out. Down at the end of the short sewer was a maintenance room. While I was digging around inside and looting scrap and old money I found an electric switch. I pulled the lever and jumped as I heard the floor open up behind me, revealing a set of stairs. I walked down the stairs and was horrified to find a hidden torture dungeon, with skeletons and half-eaten corpses littering mattresses around the room and gruesome bodies on hooks.

Lets hear yours.

There's a rube-goldberg machine in a grocery store in a small town west of megaton.

As I took my first steps out of vault 101 I took a quick look around to see 5 Deathclaws waiting for me...

That's the end of the story.

I have collected every single gnome in the entire game, except for the one in the Vault 112 simulation, because it isn't real.

There's also a terminal in Vault 108 that has my name on it.

You'll also notice that there's another name in that terminal; Jason Stevens. In real life, my father is called Jason Stevens.

Even checked to make sure it wasn't just a funny clever bit of programming that pulled whatever name you gave your Xbox on setup.

Oh, the Dunwich Building. Right at the bottom of the Dunwich Building...well...

I feel like making up some badass epic story right now about Fallout 3 but am too tired. Maybe I'll be back tomorrow.

EDIT: Woot 200th Post, I was hoping the post would be about something more productive and interesting than informing people I'm too tired to write a stupid story.

Finding out what the residents in Andale were hiding was one of those moments I'd somehow missed on my first three playthroughs of the entire game.

And it wasn't pretty, what they'd done. But then, neither are their corpses. Let's just say karma has a hammer, and its name is Silva.

I thought a free Strange Meat Pie every day was a pretty sweet deal. >,>
It's not like I ever actually used the you-know-what perk.

I just tried to escort Sticky to big town as a level 21 character, he didn't survive the 2nd encounter with high level animals, but it was sure as hell entertaining to see him decapitated.

What I don't get about this is why people don't fast travel with him. It worked for me. Not that there is really much point to escorting him.

Hmmm, for epic moments without mentioning something other people already have it's rough, though I did *REALLY* like the orbital nuke launching tower set up/mini quest. Totally useless in the overall scheme of things, but very cool. :)

"You wanna go to Big Town? Of course you do!"

That's what Sticky said as he ran up to Barbara, my wasteland gunslinger. Being the half-decent type, I decided to oblige. Sure, why not? I'll keep him safe. I've got my favorite assault rifle and a handful of grenades.

Several minutes of walking and kicking the crap out of raiders later, we make it to Big Town. Now, I'd been to Big Town before, and I'd protected it from the Super Mutants. How? With land mines. Yeah, you can see where this is going.

"Wow, thanks lady!" Says Sticky, before promptly stepping on a frag mine. Bang.

Now I'm not usually the cheating type, but I felt sorry for the poor guy. So I opened the console, resurrected him, and switched back to reality. Sticky looks at me, somewhat depressed.

"I hate it here," He says to me before walking four steps away and into another frag mine. Bang.

I left him there at that point.

the big, heavy door.

my reload time was short and efficient

Nah. I'd say it's not a very good bonus. The pie, if it works like that "you-know-what" perk, gives you evil karma - for what? Who's going to need it if they're already playing evil? Yeah, it restores a bit of health. But if you've got Medicine higher than 30 (and later on you really really should), a Stimpack will make them look very skimpy for healing.

Compared to the other choice, it's nothing. For taking out all of those murderers, you get all of their (pretty decent for selling) weapons, and can then go ahead and steal all of their stuff - including the 40 Strange Meat inside the shed, if you're so inclined. This is what I call win/win.

I found a random contraption that makes molerat meat more delicious. And my friend was like "I never found that and I have been playing this for months!"
