I have never moshed for more than 5 seconds. Why? I'm broad shouldered and 6'6" when I enter the mosh everyone quickly leaves.

No one wants to play with me.

edit: I take that back when my brothers are at the show we mosh together. I'll just put it this way. I'm the 'runt' in my family.

1.) Slayer and Machine Head at Download 2007. 60,000 people slamming into each other in blazing sunshine. Magical. My ribs were sore the next day, however I sustained only minor injuries considering my size(I'm a small guy). I saw a lot more people with slings/crutches after they played...

2.) Cancer Bats at an incredibly small venue. A few bruises after but a really good night. Memorable as I took a friend of mine with me, his first gig experience (bless!) and he was totally exhausted afterwards! "How the hell can you still move?!"
EDIT: That was it, I knew there was more to it, just coiuldn't remember. Turns out my friend face-planted the floor within about 5 minutes, a couple of people helped him up and he carried on for the rest of the gig, however he told me afterwards (he's quite a muscular guy) "You're fucking fierce considering your size!". Turns out I inadvertently sent him flying

3.)Was at a Gallows gig about a month ago, maybe a little more. Sheer chaos. I thought nothing was more intense than 60,000 Slayer fans. Turns out there is and it's 1,500 Gallows fans in a very small venue!

They asked everyone to form the biggest circle pit they could, refusing to play until nearly the entire floor was taken up. They struck the first chord for 'The Great Forgiver' and rather than a straight ahead circle pit we all charged wall-of-death-style, then after all the chaos turned it became a circle pit. Pretty funny because in one of the earlier pits I got totally wiped out by someone twice my size, went flying. Scrambling to my feet so I wouldn't get knocked down again another guy twice my size comes along and just grabs me by the arm and pulls me up "there you go mate". As it happens I ended up doing the same for about 3 other people. It's nice to see that people look out for each other from place to place.

I got pit tickets to the Blink-182, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday concert here in Cleveland coming up in September. It'll end up being my second or third concert and I plan on making it the most memorable time ever.

I nearly lost my shoe in a pit and knew if I didnt get to it first I wouldnt see it ever again. So I decided the best option was to superman dive and land on the shoe...I grabbed it and was then lifted off the ground and put back on my feet again.

Seeing Slipknot last year they got the whole crowd to sit down on the ground and when 'Spit It Out' started everyone had to "jump the fuck up!" That was a pretty awesome experience seeing a few thousand people all jump at the same time and start a giant pit.

Cancer bats are so dirty and southern, I live in Toronto so I see them whenever there not on tour, we always laugh at Liam (singer) cause he seems like a drunk but hes the most straight edge guy i've ever met.

Yeah I was reading about that, kinda makes sense. He just looked really wide-eyed when I met him, I thought "there's no way he's been drinking".
They really are a breath of fresh air right now. It's boring hearing bands complaining about things so when I discovered them I instantly hunted for as much of their music as possible. I've never heard something so positive and heavy before.

Was at an Enter Shikari gig a year or so ago in Glasgow.

Enter Shikari have this kind of weird heavy metal/raver fan base which is basically brightly dressed skinheads in shorts moshing like mad bastards - it was good fun.

During one of the last few songs the singer demanded we make a human pyramid - look to my left and these guys are halfway through making one with staff trying to force it's way through the crowd to get to them. Got pre-occupied moshing and never got to see if they completed it... or broke any bones =/

I saw a guy who looked like the main dude from Twilight when I saw Everytime I Die. Lets just say, he didn't make it out alive.

I went to see Dir en Grey in some small club in Sheffield and it was absolutely full of 30-year-old metalheads. Needless to say, I stood no chance in the pit but the guys seemed to recognise this and everytime I ended up anywhere near to the action they would politely move away XDDD

I also once got attacked in a mosh pit by some weird guy who stared at me for about 30 seconds then put his hand over my face and pushed me backwards into the crowd behind me, standing on my toes so I couldn't move my feet to stop myself from falling over. Luckily the guy behind me had his wits about him, held my up and punched the guy in the face to get him off me. Then I kicked his ass

EDIT: Omg I almost forgot. I was at a New Found Glory gig with my best friend and we were just standing, forming part of the ring around the pit. This guy and his girlfriend come from behind us to get into the pit and as soon as the guy gets in some guys shoves him, making him elbow his own girlfriend right in the face just as she came between us. He didn't realise and carried on in the pit while my friend and I held his unconcious girlfriend XD He finally got back around to us (the pit was a circle at this point) and was like "OH SHIT THANKS GUYS" and carried her to the back. We met up with the poor guy later when he was putting his girlfriend in an ambulance. He felt so guilty D=

I went to the same Slipknot/Machine Head/Children of Bodom tour last year, it was amazing. Spit It Out was momentous. Then entire standing area and even most of the standing seats high up in the arena were just bouncing. I had a sore neck from headbanging so hard and lost my voice for two days after that gig. Good times.

I don't like mosh pits. I wear glasses, so I don't want them broken. And I just don't see what's so fun about flailing around in a crowd like that. When I go to live shows I try to avoid them.

The last Clutch show I went to had a mosh pit, which is weird cuz they really don't make music to mosh to. It was annoying because the venue was a pretty small club, so it was hard to stay out of it. But it was funny when Neil singled out some of the main douchebags: "You were hardcore... now you're 30."

I used top be really into the punk scene. Now I'm tall but I'm insanely thin. Anyway, I love pits, escpecially circle pits. Now, when a band is decent enough music to create a pit to and no one is doing so, I tend to be the one to start them. Usually by running in and jumping with all my weight into someone. It works pretty effectively. One time I did such a thing and the guy got mad and tackled be into the monitors. It fucked up my back for 2 weeks. Luckily my buddy Nathan nailed the guy like right after.

Tale number two. I went to go see Dethklok with a couple of my buddies from highschool last summer. Now, none of these guys had ever been to a show with a real mosh pit let alone had been in one. I asked them if they wanted to go near to the front and they said yes, so I brought them in. They were a little surprised when they found out they were right in the pit. Anyway, my buddy's little brother (I think he was about 14 at the time) kept getting punched in the face (something like 5 times). So he points to the guy to me and its some bald fucker doing the "punch everyone" dance in the middle of the pit, so I picked the right moment, ran into the pit and kneed the guy as hard as I could in the face. The pit is there for everyone to have a good time, not just that fucker.

Things I hate at Metal shows, though:
- When people are headbanging, completely unaware of you being behind them giving you a nice faceful of hair every 2 seconds.
- When there are people who are unaware the the pit is at the front of the venue and spend their time just walking around the crowd pushing people at random.
- People who judge you based on the band on your t-shirt.
All these things: Not fucking cool.
I did very much enjoy seeing Dethklok though. And for those of you familiar, I kneed the guy in the face during Murmaider.

well, the only mosh pit i have ever being was funny because a friend of mine, skinny, short, glasses kept being bounced off by everyone and ended up loosing his glasses, he then got out, i walket towards him and he said "did you see that?? i rock in the mosh pit"

1) I lost my bracer. Probably broke.
2) Had to stop for a moment to check if my face was bleeding after I got a piece of metal slamming into my chin.
3) One guy fell on the back of his head so hard, I had to hold on to him after he got up or he'd just fall down again. He was carried to the side of the room.
4) There was one really fat guy everybody kind of avoided. Most likely because everyone knew moshing against him is like trying to push a stranded whale back into the sea by yourself. Though we did manage to launch him into a group of girls standing in front of the stage. I hope their ok.
5) Max (Cavalera) called for a circle mosh several times. I kind of avoided those. They can get real ugly. (i.e. getting trampled)
6) Found a guy about my size who we did a twister with to great effect. (hold eachothers hands while spinning around the entire mosh pit.) We knocked over quite alot of people before we lost our balance and both fell.
7) One guy wanted to do a flying body check, I lost because I hestitated in midair. Then he pulled my hair as somekind of bro hug. But I grabbed his shoulders and hit him in the chest with my knee. Call it a Biek hug. No hard feelings after though.
8) My leg is pretty sore now. I got hit in the thigh pretty hard. I bet im gonna feel that tomorrow morning.

I saw Soulfly last year. They were amazing. I was right on the edge of their pit (brutal) and got thrown straight towards some sweaty fat hairy dude with his shirt off and the worst pusey back acne ever. Bleh. Worst pit experience.
