Sorry if this has been done before, but I could not find anything using the search bar.

Anyway, as of late I have been thinking a lot about target audiences. I've not long been 19, but as I read/watch/play something I can't help but think if I am the target audience, and whether I should be reading/ playing it etc..

So my question is this, do you think about whether you are the target audience when playing games, reading a book, watching a film or anything along those lines, and do you care whether you are?

Well that's interesting and now I'm paranoid about people thinking about me whenever they try to sell their products...

Who cares? I'm not in the target audience of Twilight, on account of I'm not a 14 year old girl, but that doesn't mean I can't read and enjoy it. Hell, all summer I've been reading nothing but kids' books.

Don't worry about whether you're in something's "target audience". If you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

No. Because if you really try and make things towards one specific type of demographic the product will end up failing.

I play video games. I also enjoy reading Southern Living magazine, looking at kitchen appliances and my TV viewing is mostly HGTV an the Food network.
So yeah, its annoyingly obvious to me when I'm not the target audience for a video game. Its not bad, per se, but its just there, making me enjoy it all the less.

No. Tho I notice my mind starts to think along the lines that the target audience is probably meant to. Good for immersion, bad for trying to chat with a friend as you play.

Why would you even consider it? Either you like it or you don't, it doesn't matter who it was made for.

No, and no. Never think about it, and wondering if I am or not while doing anything never really seemed like it mattered to begin with to me.

I was once involved in a target audience survey when I was 13, I think I seriously screwed up their results because they were looking for a minor who liked stuff by the Disney channel, Not watching Battlestar Galactica and Cowboy Bebop.

So in short, no I don't.

Isn't that one of the 2chan Vocaloids in your avatar?

OT ; I suppose I have thought of it before, but only when it is blatantly obvious, such as Dora the Explorer. Other that that, I probably have but I just can't recall it.

I find it quite odd how my tastes interact with demographics. I'll be 19 this month (on the 19th, fancy that) and still I enjoy a great many things that were not meant for the 18-25 year old white male demographic. For example, I still watch (the last few good) cartoons, like Chowder, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, and Adventure Time with Finn and Jake, just to mention the ones still on the air. I play video games outside of my demographic (Pokemon rules), watch movies outside my demographic (none recently, but I saw and enjoyed WALL-E and The Fantastic Mr. Fox), read books outside my demographic (Journey to the West, The Divine Comedy, Popular Science Magazine, and anything else by my own volition), listen to music outside my demographic (don't even get me started on how picky I am with music), and generally just do not fit the media's ideas about what an 18-25 year old white male likes and dislikes. So I don't really care when I'm in the periphery demographic, but I do find it interesting.

Yes, I do wonder sometimes if whether or not I'm the target audience for what I'm reading/watching/playing. But it doesn't get me to stop enjoying it. So what if it isn't directed at me, as long as I'm enjoying myself, I'm fine.

Gentlemen's special interest literature sells quite well.
