I'm sure these thousands of people will happily replace their preorder, with one from Amazon, or Gamestop, or Walmart.
Many of those places are sold out.

The biggest strawman ever?
Wait. Wait a sec while I wrap my mind around this.

You're comparing a game, which is a nonessential piece of entertainment that is subject to the same pre-release editorial review practices as your average book or CD, to an essential piece of your house's general anatomy, so to speak?

You're telling me that your not receiving your ordered console bundle is going to damage your quality of life in a way that's so severe, so serious, that you're entitled to manifest actual anger because of it? You're telling me that a developer taking the practical and lucid way out of a bind is "fucking up"?

Jeeze. Here I was thinking I sometimes binged a little too much. Here I was thinking I had the habit of killing myself with anticipation!

Honestly, this reminds me of myself, back when I was a teenager. I'd read webcomics religiously and then becomes honestly pissed off whenever Jason Ehenhaft or Scott Kurtz didn't update their pages on time. By golly, I was being deprived of my essential webcomics dose for the day! THIS COULD NOT STAND! I HAD TO GO RAGE ABOUT IT ONLINE AND DEFEND MY INALIANABLE RIGHT TO WEBCOMICS!

Then I grew up.

So Watch_Dogs et al. won't be Launch Day titles. Will the world stop spinning? Will the PS4s and Xbox Ones of this world explode? Will your bank account turn into a singularity and suck your funds into the Fourth Dimension?

No.

They're Ubisoft titles, they're for Ubisoft to manage and distribute - until the very day your copy lands in your lap. Not before.

God Damnit Ubisoft, you had 1 job, 1 JOB and you fucked that up.
They didn't fuck up; they realized that both of their launch titles needed room to grow. "Fucking up" would imply that Watch_Dogs and The Crew have been cancelled altogether, which hasn't happened.

You'll get to play 'em in due time. Patience is a virtue.
Actually they did.
They promised them to various retailers (including Sony) for a time that they were unable to deliver.

That's a fuck up.
Just because Ubi decided to delay Watch Dogs doesn't mean all those PS4's that were going to be part of the bundle disappear into the Aether.

Target could have done what nearly every other company caught out by this, deliver the PS4 part of the bundle on time and offer the customers the chance to change games or still get Watch Dogs when it releases.

But they didn't.

Thats the current issue here.

Fair enough, but at this point I'd guess that putting your name and a deposit down on the waiting list will still be more reliable (and cheaper) than trying your luck again with Target.

I'll bet a lot of people will just take this as Target refusing rather than cancelling their order.

It *is* entirely on Target's back. Like I've been saying, Ubisoft has the right to manage their games however they see fit. They could scrap Watch_Dogs and actually re-release it a few years down the line as a game where you just, well, watch dogs in a dog park that it would be their right.
