I've been thinking of getting a tattoo recently and I've finally decided on what I want to get done. I'm just not sure where I should get it.

Edit: Thought I should mention what it is.
It's the Crook and Flail. The symbol of Osiris, the Egyptian God of Death and Cycles (like the Seasons, stuff like that). I've always been interested in Egyptian mythology and what this symbolises appeals to me. Not the death part, but seeing it as a natural cycle.

I want it to be a bit smaller than the actual size there, and in a place where I can see it, but can be easily hidden when out in public when I need it to be. And not on my feet. Any ideas, Escapists?

And so this isn't all about me, feel free to talk about your feelings on tattoos, what you would, or wouldn't get, or, even better, show them.

I'm just curious, but why are you getting that tattooed? I'm assuming that, since it's nothing standard like a dragon or a skull or a pony, that you know what it is.

Depends how big it is! If it was smaller I'd say somewhere like inside wrist/inside elbow etc. They seem like places to tuck small square(ish) tattoos. Otherwise top of the foot is a good one.

But that's my opinion entirely :)

Forearm.
But I reckon you should have the crown in there somewhere as well...

Ask your artist. You will want it to go with the natural lines and curves of your body and honestly, the professionals know best.

What exactly does that depict? I'm getting Willy Wonka/S&M vibes from it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

I think the upper-arm or shoulder area would be the best, so it doesn't curve much.

Edit: Oh, I see.

I couldn't find any pictures with the crown in, and I'm not sure if adding it would complicate it. I was looking for something simple.

But I was thinking somewhere on the arms, possibly the upper arm. That way people don't see it when I where T-Shirts but I can still show it to someone, and myself, when I want to. That's my only problem with the forearm.

Embarassingly, this didn't cross my mind. Although it would still be nice to hear some suggestions so I can go in with at least a vague idea.

Maybe you could get the egyptian Ankh to go with it? Of course thats probably much less unique than the crook and flail and the meaning might be different from what you want. Just a suggestion.

My vote goes towards inside wrist, It's where I would get it.

or if you feel like hiding it, inside forearm.

I did think about using the Ankh, perhaps hanging off of the Crook. Though I'm not sure if that's even possible, I've never had a tattoo before so I don't know if that could be done. It's meaning does appeal to me, I just didn't want to have it and be a dominant feature as I don't think it stands well on its own.

If you're feeling kicky put in on your chest and place it so that the crook goes around yer right nipple.
If I got it done right, I could have the crook going around one nipple, and the flail lashing the other one.

I don't know why people are so concerned about tattoo concealment. They're becoming more and more widely accepted in many field of employment. Mine have never affected me adversely in that way. However, Mallefunction had the best suggestion thus far: tattoo artists will know best where you should a design to not destroy the design.

Not my cup of tea, but an interesting choice. I can appreciate your reasoning behind it. Quite cool.

I'd get it in the middle of my back, just below my neck.
Thanks. I do want a tattoo on my back at some point, maybe the back of the shoulder, but for my first I'd like it in a place where I can easily see it.

I only want to conceal it because I would see my own tattoos as meaning something personal to me, and being quite private in general. Of course, you could say that with this opinion then why get a tattoo at all.

Fair enough.

On your forearm, near your elbow? It is easily visible and would look cool there I think.
Do you mean on the top of the forearm, where the muscle is, or the bit where the bone is?

Like where this one is:

I would like it there, the only problem is that it wouldn't be easy to conceal if the need should arise.

It depends; any job that would really need you to cover it, would probably have long sleeve shirts or something akin. If a job is your concern.
Job concealment wouldn't particularly bother me. I just wouldn't like to have it on show all the time. The ideal place is soemwhere it can be seen easily when I want to show it, not in a place where it is always on display barring a dedicated effort to cover up.

Are you sure you want a tattoo? Positive? Because if all your doing when your planning it, is thinking, "how can I hide it" Why not just draw it on or hold up flash cards when you want to show people how much you love the Egyptians.
