I'm American, and I feel like bitching...

I sent in my tax return 5 days ago, and it was rejected. I had to send it back out today and I wont be able to pay my rent on time, because it will take longer to get my money back, but worst of all, I wont be able to buy my new computer when I wanted to...

My topic for discussion, what are your feelings on the tax system in America?
(Or your home country)

I live in Denmark which has one of the largest tax burdens.

I feel fine about it. Education is free, also university level plus loads of other things. I think it's easy to save for whatever I'm planning to buy but then, I don't have that many expenses at the moment. Still, it's not something that bothers me at all.

That's a bummer. Mine has never been rejected. What'd you do? I use TaxAct site to do my taxes and before that I used to pay someone to do it.

I got a letter saying I owe the state from2007 and now they are tying up this years return. Really it took you this long to figure out that I owe which when I did my taxes I didn't, I get enough of my check reamed so people who don't need to mooch can.

Taxes are great if you like being buttfucked every year.

In all seriousness I wish there was a more simplified system that allowed me to pay taxes AND decide what my money goes towards. But the people in power (not the politicians, the bankers) will never let that happen and have billions of dollars to spend to ensure it doesn't.

I mean take a fine look at the education system.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and guess that you attend a government funded public school. Now I haven't attended a school for quite some time but growing up we were never taught financing, the complexity of our tax system, money management, or anything similar. Now, almost in my 30's I have to ask, "Why? Why is something that is such a HUGE part of my adult life, not introduced to me at a young age? "

I'll tell you why: Because the people in charge don't want it taught to the mass public. Just do a bit of research on some of the big bankers and the federal reserve system. Some of it is bullshit, but if you're a straight thinker you can start to read in between the lines and filtering out the "conspiracy theorist" from the real documented facts.

The cake is a lie.

Ummm, I'm nearly 30 myself, and we were taught about the tax system in about 5th grade. Not to mention annually in high school.

I agree on everything you say. Being 20, I wished I would have been taught how to properly file my taxes and be able to manage my money.
When you're in school and have a job, money management is a must and unfortunately "Economics" in high school doesn't tell you jack shit about how to do anything.

I understand why taxes are necessary, but I believe filing for a tax return and all that is involved is overly complicated.

And taxes are very good a buttfucking people.
