Taxi Driver Question

does anyone know by chance the name of the book that shared (or more accurately inspired)Taxi Driver's plot?

All I know is the Author was Russian and the book itself was first written in Russian and translated to English.

Paul Schrader wrote the screenplay to 'Taxi Driver'. According to Scorsese, how many weeks did it take for him to write the script?


2 . Paul Schrader wrote 'Taxi Driver' in 2 weeks, with a gun on the table. The character of Travis Bickle was partially based on him. Paul Schrader also wrote the screenplay to 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', but Spielberg did so much editing to it, he left his name off of the final film.
