Ah crumpets, the sign of a poorly made pancake

I think you came much closer to eddible food with the English Muffin, now those are good!
Oh look, a 'witty' colonial.

Of the variety that thinks pancakes are a breakfast item.

Hilarious.
As I said in the other thread, its up to us in Canada to actually perfect brittish food in order to make it tasty.

And you Britts don't even know how to make a proper pancake, what you call a pancake is just a badly made crêpes. Now the Scotts and the Welsh on the other hand, they know how to make a pancake, although they haven't learned the value of maple syrup.
Why would we try and perfect the crepe? It's French.

For those of you without ready access to pre-made crumpets, the Beeb provides [http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/crumpets_93122], a recipe at the very lest. Those more used to arbitrary volumetric measurement of dry ingredients will have to locate a set of scales from somewhere.

Another excellent topic, sah!

As a matter of interest...where do you stand in that immortal milk/tea first debate? It would disappoint me greatly if your awesome fell at such a crucial hurdle.

So, British food... Was the idea to balance out the awesomeness of crumpets & tea and fish & chips with the horrible idea of boiling everything else?

Milk last. I find that pouring the milk first tends to lead to boiled milk, and I'm not a fan of that taste.

Good grief has the whole world gone ubsabe? Do you not find that the milk last approach leaves the tea tasting comparatively STALE?!

Madness, sir, madness!

I've made the grand total of two threads in this style.

Not exactly up there on the scale of repetitiveness.

Quite the story you've got there. I however can't subjectively comment being as I've never had either one.

Being a colonial savage, I love my crumpets with margarine and marmite or vegemite, I'm not fussy. That is bliss on a cold morning.

No butter?

Bloody savages.
I know right. Next thing you know, we will be using human blood.

Every time I look at one of our coins and see the Queen, I swear I can see the disappointment in her eyes.

She wants you to succeed.

So very much. She cries everyday.

True Story.

Yes indeed.

The other day I received a letter from her entitled, "An Ode to the Antipodean Savage".

It was remarkably moving.

[sub][sub][sub]Honestly, so am I. Has to be out of a cafetiere or percolator... yes, how pretentious am I?![/sub][/sub][/sub]
We lesser folk have to deal with granulated and/ or instant coffee. I bet you don't even put the milk in first.

;P

[sub][sub]Though this could be entirely because I find the taste of cafetiere coffee way too different than the stuff I grew up with to really get into it properly.[/sub][/sub]
[sub][sub]My eyes are hurting from all the squinting at the screen.[/sub][/sub]

OT: Tea and crumpets are delish, although I do rather prefer the traditional english jaffa, at any time other than breakfast. Lots of hot tea dunking action. Phwoaaar.

Well thank you OP, now I really want crumpets and I can't have any because I'm at work. I shall just have to double my tea intake.

I really don't enjoy crumpets, even if you toast them into oblivion they're still like eating a bath sponge. I mean, I can see how people could like them, but I find them pretty tasteless compared to the humble scone, cheerful scotch-pancake, or epic waffle.

Toasted waffle with some butter and honey, that's the snack of kings right there. Served with some strong black coffee and a look of jealousy from all my co-workers.

And I don't eat fish and chips very often, I live beside the sea, and I can't get a decent bit of cod, it's all bleached and boney and not the big chunky white flakes of cod that we all love. These days you barely taste the fish, if we could have those old style seaside fish suppers, drowning in salt and vineger, crispy batter... now I'd be right on board with that.

Seriously, I think you'd hit the mark more if you stopped with the British tea and crumpet (which only applies to England really, Scotland is a scone nation for instance) - maybe the great British Lamb Bhuna... nan bread, spiced onions... hmmmm.
