Team Fortress 2 Beta? "what?"

Um, so I downloaded an update to TF2 and then I looked at my list and saw TF2 Beta...

Anyone know what it is for?

it's an open, dynamic, beta that is used by valve to better test balancing and tweaks, as the larger playergroup will better test the systems. It tests the speculative ideas that have already passed preliminary testing, and is ready to balance (I think)

Saw the announcement earlier, pretty much looks similar to the CSS beta to me, just slight tweaks to game mechanics.

Players participating in the beta will automatically receive all unlockable weapons for testing purposes. Random items drops are also turned off, and the store is not available during beta play.

It's basically a good, but temporary version of TF2 so enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm looking forward to this a lot. Actually, mainly the map changes.
