Convince everyone to meele. Then get everyone on your team to either be sandman scout or engy.

If you're engy get 16 Level 3's up.

Simple!

(In all seriousness be Medic. It's easy to be a good player in that. Just survive and heal EVERYONE. Except enemy spies.)

First off, everyone sucks at first.
Second, a Pyro is always useful to have around your sentry guns.
3:Teleporters ARE useful.
4:Scouts are more useful at close range.
5:Sometimes, as a Scout, the objective is more important than killing an enemy.

If you are on PC find a server that has an Admin on that will let you sit in spectate. Watch how other people play their class. Watch where sentries go up, teleport locations, And where snipers typically stand. Once you see how the more experienced players do it, practice until you feel like you can experiment with new play styles.

I snipe most of the time and can get a Headshot 9/10 times but I practiced at that for a few days skill will come with time like any other game.

It's ok, I suck too (Damn control pads, not as accurate as mouse and keyboard...). Best bet when totally new to the game is to play as Pyro, hide behind corners then flame people as they run past then run away giggling. Cheap but effective, unless you go against a team with a lot of Heavies.

Pyro:

W+Mouse 1, occasionally throw in an A or D. Maybe even an S if you're feeling daring.

Go off to youtube and watch the tf2 videos by this gentleman:
http://www.youtube.com/user/EvilDaedalus

The 'How to Play *class' videos are particularly useful. They were made before the class packs started coming out but are still very valid.

I don't play a lot of engineer, but for both the pyro and scout, flanking and attacking from the rear is by far the most effective tactic. Both of them have very short range, ambush centered weapons and if they don't start shooting before their enemy sees them, they're in big trouble. The scout can just bail, but the pyro doesn't have that luxury.

This was posted while I was typing. This is how you be a useless pyro:

Sarcastic or not, this is very bad advice.

There are some general tips for each class you can learn from that website. It should be enough to keep you alive long enough to learn the more advanced tactics on your own (the best way to learn them).

Have fun!

Learn Soldier.

Most variable class; no weaknesses, and a decent learning curve. It can be a little rough at first, but once you get the rocket speed and its splash damage area, you'll fuck some shit up.

W+Mouse 1 is the most pro strategy ever.
Don't tell people to do this. It is a shit strategy and they will get killed. As solly i get my easiest kills from dumbasses who do this. If your going to play pyro play it like a half spy. moving around to flank the enemy and intercept them but eithout the little gasgets and a better backstab.

Tips to get better. play medic. you see how all the other classes operate. or go to EvilDaedaluses videos/ubercharged.net both these places have great beginner and advanced tutorials

Or you could just do what I did as a spy:

1) Get into enemy territory.
2) Disguise yourself as a Demoman.
3) Back stab some one.
4) Run away.
5) Repeat.

Dude, I'm just joking around. Unless you're a Heavy. Then it might work.

Try to come at your enemies from unexpected angles. Especially effective as a backburner pyro, spy, or scout. This is easier if you make use of the scout double jump+FaN knockback, soldier rocket jump, and demo pipe jump, all of which allow you to access some areas other classes can't.

Getting used to melee is very helpful as a support class. In addition to saving yourself, you can often rack up kills in melee while the other team is distracted by your more threatening teammates.
