Personally, I think GTA An Andreas is better than both. I've gotten more hours out of that than either games put together and multiplied by four.
haha, that game kicked some serious arse

OT: TF2 has collectible hats, MW2 doesnt... nuff said.

+1 to all points made by the OP.

Additions:
- Graphics shouldn't make or break a game.
- The "douchebaggery" level of a community should not factor into this argument, but MW2 players are so annoying that you just can't avoid it.

I think I'm the right person to comment on this since these two games are easily my most played games ever. I'm at about 20 days of play time with MW2 and about 10 days with TF2. Both are EXCELLENT games, there's no denying that. As for a preference? Well it all depends on your personal taste. I like both because they CAN be hectic and chaotic, but you can also play more reserved - sit back, take your time, etc...

As for what you said about 'noob' tactics and unbalanced gameplay. I think both games are extremely well balanced. Some argue that the 'noob tube' ruins MW2 - I wholeheartedly disagree. The noob tube may be a great weapon for noobs, but it has a really slow rate of fire, only two rounds, and it can't hit anything within ten feet of you. Noob tubes are only useful if the person using it is good.

Anyway - I say, just enjoy whatever you want to, and forget about what other people like. Both are great experiences, just leave it at that.

The cartoon graphics thing (BTW, you might want to tell him that's "cel-shaded")
Isn't wildly phong-shaded, or is cel-shaded a term rather than a technique (if you get what I mean)

Well, first off.. Versus threads.. BAD. VERY BAD.

Secondly, I'm not a fan of either game. MW2 is a classic example of everything that's wrong with FPS online gaming. TF2 I feel has been tainted and too ridiculous with the updates, its just not fun anymore.
There's no such thing as too ridiculous, that's what being ridiculous is all about.

Actually, I don't find the updates that bad, they're still balanced and offer more variety for people who might not want to play with that exact style (e.g. The Backburner can be more for offensive players, whilst the normal flamethrower can be used more for support.)

Not saying you should like them, but just that the updates aren't all bad.

mw2 always has a shittier community, on xbox live whenever i'm playing that i always mute everyone because its just a bunch 9 year olds attempting to cuss and trash talk people.
while people on tf2(for the computer) are friendly, nice, funny, and alot of the times even tactical.
but i cant really hate modern warfare 2 for that because its really just xbox live with the bad gaming community

modern warfare doesnt even have hats. what kind of shit game is that.

srsly though, dedicated servers and the fact that there is a goal to each level (most people just play tdm on mw2. not that it isnt fun, but the modes where there are objectives of some sort are better imo.. but far less people in them unfortunately)
also, in tdm on mw2, i always feel like im competing more with my own team than against the other team, trying to top score my team. tf2 feels much more team based (duh, its in the title). if you dont work as a team, your team will most likely lose and you probably wont score well.

both massively different games, both good fun.

but yeah tf2 wins out i think...

Team Fortress 2. Although I have never played MW2 and frankly, I don't want to.

1) Team Fortress 2 has hats.
2) What's more memorable, the guys you play in MW2 or characters like The Engineer, The Spy or The Heavy?
3) Team Fortress 2 has the better community, on the PC anyway.
4) Team Fortress 2 has nine different classes all with unique weapons (once you get them anyway) which all have different jobs to do on the battlefield (with exceptions of The Soldier, The Heavy and possibly The Pyro)
5) Team Fortress 2 has more variety, with; Payload missions, King of the Hill, Capture the Briefcase and communiy made modes like Dodgeball, Prop Hunt and Randomize.

I like both of them very much. They are each their own game with their own merits. TF2 is a class based FPS while MW2 is more a "classic" FPS. Neither of the games have any huge flaws that make them unplayable. They are both good in their own way.

it doesn't rely on VAC to ban cheaters
you know why is VAC named like that?its because its Valve Anti Cheat and who made TF2? Valve thats who.So it does use VAC

Also i used to be a TF2 fan and would select it over any shooter even though i was 12 at the time but the updates just made it unbalanced and too wacky,I mean really? Jarate?
and MW2 is a fantasy of a 10 year old given guns in a building with 16 other 10 year old kids with guns who joked each other about their small penus

No VS. Threads No VS. Threads NO GOD DAMN VS. THREADS.
Shit.

Personally, I prefer to play MW2. Regenerating health just sits better with me. Couldn't get into Bioshock for the same reason.

Team Fortress 2 has 3 classes whose sole purpose is to pretty much annoy the shit out of anyone and everyone they come across (The Spy, the Sniper, and the Engineer).
vs spy: l2spycheck
vs sniper: don't stand still, you wanker
vs engy: l2uber/spy/soldier/demo
