It's pretty much any other shooter as remade by Pixar and Norman Rockwell, with an absolute refusal to take itself seriously. Also, it doesn't hurt that all the characters- and the dev team- are hilariously insane and obsessed with hats.

Nine mentally unstable mercenaries, each with their own different weapons, abilities and attributes, are hired to defeat the enemy (comprised of the same mercenaries, but wearing a different colored uniform) in a variety of different missions ranging from territory control to pushing a bomb cart. Hilarious carnage ensues.

Oh yeah and there's hats, but they're really not important despite what some players might want you to think. They're just a small bonus.
