Last night I bought Mass Effect from steam. Everything was going fine so I let it download while I was sleeping. I woke up, eager to try Mass Effect. I told Steam to launch the game and it started installing (that was normal because I had only downloaded the night before). I got about half way the installation process when I got an error message saying "Mass Effect has stopped working" and it closes Mass Effect. Now I get the error message before the installation even starts (it happens as soon as I click "launch Mass Effect")

I've Spent about an hour looking through the EA support pages to no avail, I think we all know how useful those are. I have all of the latest drivers, My hardware is well above what is required, I've ended background processes, I've restarted my computer, and I've restarted Steam. At this point I have no Idea what to do, the only other reason I can think of is that I'm using The 64-bit version of Vista.

So Escapist, I must ask for your help. What am I doing wrong?

Erm...I'm not sure, but this is a fairly common issue from what I've heard. Personally my Mass Effect installed fine but refused to actually play =\. I think if you google the issue you might find some help.

Throw rocks at it until it either works or your monitor breaks. Never heard "when in doubt, give it a clout?"
I'd look through steam stuff rather than EA, that might be more useful
