Technical Mic Problem

I've been having this problem for the last couple of years now. Whenever I launch any games, my microphone automatically switches itself off in the standard windows (XP) audio control. It's easy enough to alt+tab and switch it on but it can be a right pain in the ass when the game isn't fond of alt+tabbing. Any ideas what this could be down to? Would be awesome if someone could solve my problem.

that is strange.. make sure you have up to date audio drivers.

When I got my new video card and installed a new version of the ATI catalyst it changed all my audio settings because it brainwashed my computer into thinking the vid card had audio ports aswell and would switch when ever I would load an application.
