So basically I've been trying to work up a playlist for an old gen ipod shuffle and the pre installed music software on Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't use the same file format.

So I decided to run itunes over a windows XP partition in Virtual Box which works fine except for one problem, I can't get windows to recognize the ipod. I've gone through the settings to try the ipod filter and tried a generic filter. Anybody got any clue how to get it to work?

What software does Ubuntu ship with? Banshee and/or Amarok? Did you install the restricted extras? I would try just getting it to work in Ubuntu before adding an extra layer of complication. File format should not be a problem.

Rhythmbox.

I've been getting a lot of help from my dad trying to get it to cooperate with my computer but the best we could come up with as aforementioned is to run windows xp over virtualbox and save the trouble of trying to figure out how to get tracks to play once taken off Rythmbox. I figured it was a compatibility problem.

But like I said, the problem now is trying to get the windows partition to recognize a USB device.

*edit* for those who don't know what I'm talking about here's a sreenshot.
