Well a week ago i was having a conversation with a good friend of mine about music; now I personally enjoy most genres of music but techno, electronica, rave etc. is my favorite type of music. When the conversation led too Techno he said "it sucks and it's gay and that everyone who listens to it is gay" and that really shocked me. Not because of what he said(hes a dick) but the fact that someone can conclude such a thing about music they've never really listened to surprised me.

So I'm asking why is it that most people in America consider techno Homosexual.

I'm not sure either. I'm not particularly fond of it myself unless I'm really in the mood to listen to it but I wouldn't go so far to bash people who listen to it.

My best guess is because it is mostly associated with the gay clubbing scene so it gets a really bad reputation.

Electronica or Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is the actual. overarching genre. Calling it all "techno" is like calling all rock music "thrash metal".

The rave scene is still alive in America. Pittsburgh and Arizona have fairly large HHC scenes, which in my opinion is as close as you're going to get to an old school style rave with kandi and cyperpunk styles galore. Getting back to topic, your friend is just acting like an ignorant child.
