For those that DON'T know Hokuto No Ken, it was super 80's cheesy tastic and super violent, with body explosions all the time. But man it was cheesy, and the fighting voices and art was arguably..aweful.

But it's still well remembered for what it was.

that is expected to be popular as hell.
is hell really popular?, i think your mistaking popular whit well known, its a common mistake as they resemble each other but still have very different meanings , while "popular" means its well known and enjoyed by the majority of those familiar whit it and "well known" means that its general knowledge that it exists.
It's, uh, popular with demons. That's what I meant, as popular as hell is with demons.
actually hell isn't popular whit demons, Matthew 25:41 ".....Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" So the whole design of hell was created to punish Satan and those that had fallen with him. Something that was created to punish demons and the principalities and powers of the air, they are not going to have special privileges , They too will be punished.
Sure, maybe at first. But now every demon I know loves it down there.

While it is a cool idea, Koei will probably screw it up by making it too repetitive.
All of gaming is repetitive. Only reason Dynasty Warrors gets so much hate is because they have a monopoly over hack and slash, as opposed to the even more repetitive shooter genre. Only other game that competes with them really was Ninety Nine Nights which failed ultimatly.
I dont mind if you dont like the game, but most people's reasons are just wrong or stupid. (Stupid being hypocritical)

Will they not stop until they've destroyed every decent anime tv/manga series? How long til we have Dynasty Warriors: Evangelion, or Full metal Alchemist... or gasp... Naruto >.< (btw, I don't think Naruto is a decent anime or mange, but other people seem to think otherwise, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt).
Also, for the people above. If you read the article you'll see it's being developed for both Ps3 and 360. Why would it be changed?
They are not targeting anime because its anime, but because they are japanese. Also they doubtfully would use ones that do not fit well into the DW formula. Naruto could be possible (Wouldnt get it though but still) while FMA would not. Cant say if Evangelion would or not though.
Prior to this was just Gundam, and though I dont know if the Three Kingdoms anime was before or after the DW games, it is almost definatly not the anime that made them make DW but just cause its an awesome era in history. (That probably also kept China from having a total pop of 8 billion by now)

It didn't strike me as a typical DW game. Mainly because the enemies looked like they were fighting back. That is the one thing that has turned me off of games like DW. You need t ofight 1000s upon 1000s of enemies looking for 1 that has some sense of self preservation.

The anime was made in 1991, based on the manga made in 1971 according to the wiki.

I have an inkling that Dynasty Warriors came after. Just an inkling though :p

I am well aware that all games have an element of repetition. What I am saying is that Koei's Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games have an unacceptable level of repetition. I owned Dynasty Warriors 2 and 3 and they were practically identical. Every character played the same and the stages repeated from one game to the next. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam was just another gameplay clone with a different look and if this Fist of the North Star version is the same as all the rest, then it will become tedious quickly. I am a fan of this series and I think it deserves better then a mediocre game version of itself.

It's so obvious that I'm surprised they didn't think of it earlier.

That said though the ending is a bit of a downer (at least to the movie) and the animation/art is absolutly dated.

I have to wonder how an update would fare, not to mention what they would do for a plot. If they simply retread the movie (as opposed to going into the TV series, which I have not seen all of) I think a lot of people who were not fans of the original would be a bit disappointed. Especially given some of the plot holes.

Also the artwork is so distinctive, stylized, and actually fairly pathetic by today's standards, that it has lead to parodies, satires, and homages going back to like "Project A-ko" and other works. If they update it, people are going to scream bloody murder, if they don't update it people will scream bloody murder.

Obvious game/franchise combination, but really... from the screens we've seen I'm not sure how this is going to work out. Everything that Yahtzee says about fandom in his "Monkey Island" review pretty much stands here, albeit to the 10th power.

Oh and speaking of which, Yahtzee hasn't quite been spewing as much bile as usual, it's been a while since my monitor melted. Would someone PLEASE make him review "Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2" ? >:)

I tried a Dynasty Warriors game a few years ago. Not really into turn-based strategy.

Or, and just hear me out here, they make an actual Dynasty Warriors game with realistic gore without merging it with anything?

You're thinking of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms game and Dynasty Tactics. Completely different. The actual series is more hack 'n slash. Extremely fun hack 'n slash.

Then play Dynasty Warriors 6. I rather enjoy the safety of DW, since I am almost sured to like it. When they mucked up Empires for 6 (by chaning too much) I hated it. Officer mode was the only real good change.

Well considering The Three Kingdoms is a popular point in chinese history, it was almost definatly not the Anime that inticed them. Now, if you want to say they are ruining ancient literature, then thats true (aside from the 'ruining' part) since its based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel.

I find Dynasty/Samurai Warriors - like most sports games - are series where you shouldn't buy every iteration. You shouldn't buy 2, then 3, then 4, then 5, then 6 with all the Xtreme Legends additions but rather buy every other game, or maybe every third game so that they're a little less repetitive to you. Often the changes are small from iteration to iteration (though not always) so I find it easier to get more enjoyment to get every other game. I went DW3->SW1->DW5 and I thought that worked quite well for keeping it somewhat fresh. I suspect I'll pick up Dynasty Warriors 7 when it hits the shelves eventually.

Just means more copies for me then. And you're missing out if you dont get SW2.
