Alright, this incident happened because of some disturbed kid, not because of games.
You'd have to be an idiot to view it any other way.
That is so true, but unfortunately the media won't see it like that. It's like over here (in Costa Rica) a kid (16 or so) killed his dad by putting a kitchen knife through his neck while they were playing FIFA because his dad was better that he was at the stupid game... I mean that's something I would expect from a slasher movie like Friday the 13th...

I mean a whole kitchen knife through the neck of your father... :S

It's like the Russian Kid who killed his dad while he was sleeping with a Sledgehammer because he had grounded him and put the games away... The scary thing is that the kid killed his dad and then just went to play his videogame like nothing had happened at all.
Sounds to me more that those kids have trouble expressing their anger in a more normal way. Anger issues have nothing to do with games, anything could have set it of.

This fighting isn't the reason for the murder, this the excuse. He obviously had some underlying problems if he killed his own mother. People with normal and healthy minds don't start killing people when arguments get heated.

THIS! Just like every other murder ever. Just because someone plays videos games and is disturbed doesn't mean video games makes them disturbed. That would be an ad hominen.
You know quite frankly, I have to disagree with you guys on this. There are times when video games are to blame. Of course the video game didn't mentally turn him into a murderer. It did however make him addicted to it to the point where he murdered his own mother over the thought that she'd take it away from him. It, quite literally, can be compared to a drug in that regard.

Of course this is only a rare case and seems to be unique to places where addiction in this form is unusually common (like South Korea). The rest of the times video games are involved in murders are because the murderers are psychotic, mentally fractured, or just plain aholes. Like the guys who murdered their "friend" because he somehow cheated at Madden. There's no explaining that.

This murder here though can, sadly, be attributed to too much gaming.

And because everyone who plays video game murder their parents and then commit suicide, video games are bad.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to follow his lead.

See, now if it had been an argument about something just as stupid, like, say, the kid leaving the milk out of the fridge too much, I severely doubt that they'd mention that in the news outlets.

I see it as a disturbed kid, who just happened to consider his gamer life more important than real life. And yes violent games just like any other type of violent media can desensitize a person, especially a 15 year old boy. Thus yes, games, in my opinion played a major part in this incident, either because he cares more about games than his own family, which is not an unnatural occurrence in some part of the world. Or maybe he started playing violent games at an early age, and that desensitized him in such a way that he could murder a human being. Am i an idiot?

This is just me, but when I was a kid and I was aching to release some aggression I would just play Unreal Tournament or something and blow pixeled heads up and complain whenever they would snipe me on Insane or whatever was the name and then I would feel just fine and I could go to sleep in peace :) Oh and I never attempted to murder my parents... But then again I understand that is different for everyone.

Oh dear... please don't let Jack Thompson or Fox News read this...
Um... who cares what Jack Thompson thinks anymore? Honestly? Do any of us care? I don't think so. Ok maybe a little bit. But it's like listening to Osama Bin Laden threaten the U.S. There's nothing to his threats to destroy the things we love. They are all hollow.

God damn, this is a depressing story. Mainly because the kid realized what he did and actually regretted his actions. It's so much easier to deal with reading stuff like this when you can just imagine the person who did it was a complete monster, deserving of nothing but hate. Then you get the ones that actually regret their actions, and you can't help but feel sorry for them and the victims.

I hope fox doesn't get a hold of this story... it will turn into another one of those "Violent video games made him do it." stories instead of a "Because the kid had problems stories.", than the IQ of America drops one more precious point....

Wow I feel sorry for the daughter. Imagine finding that scene in your house when you're 12.

The police apparently suspect that the boy committed suicide because he felt guilty about murdering his own mother
Ace detectives working this case.

I hope child services in Korea are better than the detectives.
