Now, I was reading through the "Are 'Bad Words' Neccesary?" thread, and a couple members were talking about African-American/Black/******(in no negative manner did i use it) and how words were only that: words. This made me think back to a conversation i had with a friend earlier on in the day. Now shes black, but will not let me call her anything but African-American when refering to her race. Yet, and here comes the part thats confusing to me, she lets me call Roisin Dubh as a term of endearment. Roisin Dubh translates to "little dark rose". She knows the translation and actually prefers me call her that then her real name. Does it not seem confusing or contradictive that she'll allow one, but not the other? Am I thinking about this too much? Is this really worth it's own thread?
