Heavy Rain bitches! wasnt that fun, but i vote it for pure innovation's sake.

also, it's the single most depressing overall experience i have ever had and that's pretty cool.

I want to say Starcraft 2, but...I'm way, way too many hours into Civ 5 to not give it GotY. I'm just excited that many of the strongest contenders for GotY this year are PC exclusives.

With only Fable 3 left to play out of the games that have interested me, I think I'd have to go with Red Dead Redemption, with New Vegas a close second. I liked Mass Effect 2 as well, but there were a few things that disappointed me about it.

(M)ass effect 2

Just when I thought the original game couldn't be topped they redo the gameplay and put in a fantastic ass for eye candy, I approve. (too bad the story took a side-turn, but that's the middle child syndrome).

Mass Effect 2
Bayonetta
Fallout: New Vegas

I'd rate New Vegas higher if I hadn't had to mod it just to get it to work properly.

Starcraft II beyond any kind of doubt.
After that, Reach.

I've been waiting for 10 years for SC2, and its everything I could have wanted, and I'll enjoy it for the next 10 years for the next one to come out...

Game of the Year(I don't want to get banned for using the bigger box art)

This game won GOTY for me with the trailer alone

For me, it's Vanquish. Sure, there have been other fantastic games, games with more "impact" if you like. But for me, Vanquish was an important game. Not because it made any contribution to the medium's desperate struggle for viability as an art form, not for its (admittedly terrible) story or acting, but because it exemplifies video games as games. As unadulterated, grab-you-by-the-throat action that tests your reflexes and ability to think under enormous pressure. Where other games told incredible stories or asked the player to confront their own morality, Vanquish distilled the most important part of the medium - gameplay - to its purest and most simple form: perfect controls, excellent level design, and over-the-top outlandish fun.

So I say congratulations to Vanquish. You may not sell as well, but in my opinion you are more important than Black Ops, Fallout: NV, Fable 3, Red Dead and Halo Reach, because you know what you are and what you want to be: a game. And you do it so well.

1st: Heavy Rain, definitely. Brilliant main characters (well, 3 out of 4, Madison could have a little bit more backstory), amazing story, very interesting gameplay, beautiful graphics, and probably the best gaming idea in a long time. I'm talking about 'One of your characters died? Shame, we're moving on, you have 3 left' situation. It really helped you feel like you are really fighting for your life more than all of the survival horrors combined. 17 playthroughs, and that's probably not the end for me.

2nd: Alpha Protocol. This game got a lot of hate, but I loved it from beginning to the end. Sub par graphics are not enough to discourage me from playing great ME2 + Deus Ex like gameplay mix, with a pretty decent story, which is REALLY shaped by your actions (they even made it better than in Heavy Rain, and that's something). 4 playthroughs so far, and I still missed a lot of content probably, so I'm definitely not over with it.

3rd: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood: I completely forgot about it initially, sorry Ezio. Well, it's just the same amazing AC II, with a few more interesting tweaks, and multiplayer which is great so far, and will be brilliant when the waiting time (to connect with a server) will be reduced.

4th: Mass Effect 2. Not really RPG anymore, but still a barrel of fun. I like the story and the characters, and gameplay is really good.

5th: Red Dead Redemption. A bit overhyped, but only a bit. I beat it once, had a good time, but for now I'm not going to play it again. Still, the best Wild West game ever.

Bioshock II is easily my game of the year. Such an amazing sequel, added to the world of rapture, the story, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the characters. Multiplayer was kind of fun too when it wasn't glitchy as all hell.
