List of possible ones:
Mass Effect 2
Pokemon SoulSilver
Nier (?)
Red Dead Redemption
Vanquish
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Halo Reach
BlazBlue Continuum Shift
Alan Wake

Games I missed last year but their GOTY editions came out this year that I'd like to still count as my own personal one

Mass Effect 2. AKA "that game made by people who can actually write".

It kicked the competition in the head and left it for dead in a ditch.
This for me as well. I must have done at least seven full playthroughs by now.

starcraft 2- epic storyline, amazing multi-player, and tons of map mods (turing an rts into things like FPS's to RPG's). for GotY to go to any other game would be a shock for me

A toss up between Starcraft 2 and Mass Effect 2 for me.

Starcraft's multiplyaer is just perfect for me. The competitive scene that follows it is also fun to watch.

Mass Effect 2 has an incredible story along with good gameplay. Loved every minute of it (except mining lol)

I thought Fable 3 was going to take it...

but I still root for Bayonetta.

Shit was so crazy! I got it for my birthday at the beginning of the year, and have been playing it since, and that's after a multitude of other purchases. :D

PS. I am VERY happy to see that there are others here who truly appreciate a simple, good ol' fun time!

Probably Starcraft 2. Of all the games released this year that I've enjoyed (ME2, SSF4, SC2) I've got by far the most play time and enjoyment out of SC2.

I liked Mass Effect 2 quite a lot, but it was still a giant letdown after the masterpiece that was the original Mass Effect. Here's hoping that Mass Effect 3 can find the right balance between Mass Effect's PERFECT RPG-elements and story, and Mass Effect 2's PERFECT gameplay. Mass Effect 2 was just a bit too dumbed down for me, and the story was only mediocre (lolcollectors).

I only bought 4 games this year. So that is what I am going on.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Halo Reach, Fable 3, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2.

SWTFU2 doesn't even make the list out of them. LucasArts dropped the ball on length, variety, and story. Three, two hour sittings and I beat it. Besides, at least an hour of that was me goofing around destroying everything to see if I could uncover all the hidden items.

For me it is a tie between Halo Reach and Fable 3. Castlevania:Los is close behind because, I haven't had time to finish it because I was concentrating on the two winners. Castlevania:LoS gets a gold star for being a very beautiful game.

I almost forgot. I also bought Minecraft, which is an awesome deal. Even in its Alpha stage, it already has GOTY potential for this year.

I'm not sure. I can't actually remember playing that many games released this year. All I can remember are Mass Effect 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Halo: Reach, Bioshock 2 and Black Ops.

So right now, it's New Vegas (sorry Mass Effect 2, but Fallout just seems to have far more stuff to do and it is fucking huge)

Heh, I'm going to nominate a surprise choice.

Dance Central.

And no, I'm not joking.

I love this game. Forget the RPG's and shooters. DC has the most immersive and engaging experience of any game I've played in a long, long time. And I'm getting a great workout, as an added bonus.
Okay kid, I'm not saying anything bad about your opinion, but seriously, RUN! They will fucking kill you if they get hold of you! Quick, wear this fake moustache, they'll just think you're Steve Butts and leave you be.
