Telltale Games Developing Episodic Game of Thrones

Continuing its episodic game dominance, Telltale Games revealed that a Game of Thrones title is coming next year.

Did you think only one Telltale Games-related announcement [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/130326-Telltale-and-Gearbox-Teaming-Up-for-Episodic-Borderlands] would come out of tonight's VGX show? Nope! The developer just revealed that it has another episodic game series in the works for 2014, this one based on the beloved Game of Thrones series.

Like many big gaming announcements, this was actually rumored weeks ago [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129887-Rumor-Telltale-Working-on-Game-Of-Thrones-Game], and now it's official. Of course, there are no details beyond the barebones reveal, but that should be enough to get Game of Thrones fans excited.

Telltale Games has done an excellent job making episodic games based on existing universes; if The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us are any indication, an episodic Game of Thrones could be one of 2014's most promising titles.

Ok this is getting silly. Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead season 2, Borderlands and now Game of Thrones? Exactly how is Telltale handling all of this at once? Don't get me wrong, I'll probably buy all of them...but still.

How on Earth can they work on so many projects at once? Is their staff so big by now?

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Walking Dead was my favorite game of 2012 and Wolf Among Us is off to a fantastic start (and I say that as a huuuuuge Fables fan). I love the Game of Thrones books and I'm really curious to see what Telltale can do with that universe.

Oh yeah they'll be good. I'm just concerned that it's going to take forever for them to come out. Speaking of which, when's episode 2 of Wolf Among us coming out?

They say 1st quarter of 2014.

When exactly is anybody's guess.

Wow four games on the bounce is quite staggering. At least it keeps the art and writing teams I guess. Maybe they could squeeze another season of Sam & Max in there too? :p

Wow, Yahtzee's analysis of Telltale being a 1-man conservation effort of *insert item here* is very accurate.....

OT: Great, an ASOIAF game that has the potential to be good, although I still would have preferred an RTS game wherein you play one of the specific houses and war / plot / diplomatic marriage your way to victory.

*Sigh* Oh well. Looks like loose book-to-game adaptation will do for now. They have A LOT of plot to sift through so at least they won't run low on source material.

Up next Telltale games announces Breaking Bad spin-off focusing on the trials and tribulations of "Better Call" Saul.

They've become the new golden boy of video games. Well deserved, I just hope they can sustain their level of proficiency over all this big profile titles.

There had better be a couple walks through the betrayal garden. Won't feel like GOT without it.

So The Wolf Among Us just started last month, Walking Dead Season 2 is starting this month, they're teaming up with Gearbox to make a Borderlands game and they're doing Game of Thrones?

Gonna be a busy year for Telltale. Hopefully the quality of their games doesn't suffer because of it.

AGOT Mod for Crusader Kings 2. Based on the books, not the tv show and with custom events for important characters. Although it is turn-based grand strategy.

OT: Nice, though with all the projects, it means there will be a massive delay in when the episodes come out, plus whether its based on the books or the show, and who you actually play as, or even meet known characters is anyones guess. All other AGOT Games so far..well you usually never interacted with the established lore aside from the setting.

Well, there I was being cross with Telltale taking so damn long on The Wolf Among Us - this buys them a whole heap of goodwill from me, as far as I'm concerned. Woohoo!

I mean, there I was thinking that this was just a rumour, but no, it's happening. Holy shit, now I'm really excited. Of course, this is them going into a property that far more people are familiar with, and already has a very high caliber of writing, so there's plenty of room for things to go wrong, but that's the case with anything - barring some serious catastrophe or drop in quality, this could be really great. Seriously, am I the first person posting here who's more excited than cautious?

Also, what's this about a Borderlands game? First I've heard of that, seems a bit odd - Borderlands has never exactly been about immersive storytelling, although in terms of graphic design, they're as close to Telltale as you can get.

I believe the a Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings 2 is just exactly what you're looking for, except it's turn base rather than being an RTS (how would a RTS marriage work anyway unless you're playing as a Frey?)

1. They have been using the same engine since at least the back to the future games. They know what they are doing.

2. There is little to no gameplay in their games. A few action sequences, a few bits walking around, some puzzles, but they don't need to balance for difficulty, make sure the controls are super tight.

Dear Paradox Interactive,

Please make the phone calls to make that an official expansion. If you do, you will have ALL the money.

From,

Every fan of the series.

Fun fact: In one of the updates, they added "divine blood", a line of code that makes the AI try to marry the closest relatives possible JUST for the Game of Thrones mod.

I am hoping they go outside the main story line with this. The Tales of Dunk and Egg would be almost perfect for Tell Tale.

The whole development team working on an episode for a series a time? We might get regular updates as well, instead of vague months inbetween. That, or they've hired a bunch more employees.
