"Steal all your corps BPOs and ISK and we'll take ya in" -pilot hands in stuffs- BAM pod killed. Life in EVE.
But of course. You cant trust a traitor. If he was willing to sell out his previous corp to you, what will stop him from selling you out for a better offer?

Also, women in the game are basically naked for all extensive purposes from the end game gear. Not that i have a problem with that. xD
Rather off topic. :p Also I think you meant "for all intents and purposes." :p
I think you mean, "For all expensive porpoises".

OT: Having never played the game, I'm wondering if the other guilds could team up and pry the crown from the Varanch's cold, dead hands. THAT would be great politics. The griefers might take over, but the battle between the two sides would be fun to watch from the outside.

And here I thought this was going to be about some interesting RP thing, like that whole EVE Online heist, but no it's just another MMO mechanic being exploited.

It'd be funny if the Vanarch had the power to enforce a dress code that would mandate all players put some fucking clothes on their characters. :p

Sounds like Politics in a nut shell.
I figured I'd help you out with that. ;P

Hmm, really not sure if I like the system, but it doesn't really affect me because I'm pretty much done with pay to play games and will not be playing TERA unless this changes.
You can use in-game money to buy more play time now.

Their politics are about as dubious as practicality of their female armor.
Just as the most popular female garb in america is every bit as dubious as americas politics.

Meanwhile, EVE Online players are rolling their eyes over how wimpy and nice these people are.
Eve has nothing to do with Tera. Just stating. Comparison between two different Ip's hardly seems fair when their end goals are completely different. I may be wrong, that's just my perspective, no offence intended.

Tera Guild Leaders Kill Their Own for Political Gain

The fight to be Vanarch in Bluehole Studio's Tera isn't exactly what anyone would call fair.

Being Vanarch in Fantasy MMO Tera is a big deal. Even though their term of office lasts three weeks, Vanarchs in this world have a lot of in-game authority with all the guild bennies that implies. Unfortunately politics on Tera's North American PvP servers is about as honest as Tammany Hall, and some guilds are farming their alts for extra points.

The exploit is breathtaking in its simplicity. In order to even have a shot your candidate has to be a level 50 leader of a level three guild and pay a hefty fee, which includes a non-refundable point award payment. Once that hurdle is jumped, the next step is to create a farm guild out of your guild's alts, and feed them into the mincing machine for extra points. Points can also be earned from other actions - say, by doing deeds in the game world that earn praise from your fellow players -but kill farming has proven by far the easiest road to political victory. The points are then used by the Vanarch as currency, to pay for pretty much anything the Vanarch wants to do. They fund both the political campaign itself, and whatever policies the Vanarch chooses to carry out after the campaign is over.

So long as the PvP guilds farm their points, not only are they more likely to be able to afford to run for the Vanarch slot, they're also going to be more powerful when they get it. In the Tera game world Vanarchs get to set tax rates, turn special vendor services on and off, and everyone in the Vanarch's guild gets special tricked-out speed mounts. Want to adjust the PvP settings on the server? Want to add special skill trainers or buff your clerics? Talk to the Vanarch; he has the power to get it done.

It could be argued that this aspect of the game is a natural outgrowth of the Vanarch system. The official guide published by the developer says that "accepting bribes for voting is nice, but it's much more fun to do the bribing, especially if it means winning a vanarchy." So political victory in Tera isn't supposed to be clean; but whether or not the developer intended for things to get this dirty is an open question.

It will be fixed. I don't really have a problem with it anyways, if the if there's enough consumer complaints the van-arch will be eliminated or replaced anyway. I'm sure tera will find a way.

TL/DR give them a bit more time, I'm not a tera junkie, but I have found it the most fun out of any mmo's i've played, and I've played a lot. Maybe that just because I love the unreal engine and open combat, maybe it's because I own a consumer response RPG, and maybe it's because i'm pants on head retarded. Who can say? on the whole, good thread, fun read.

Seems like they could have skipped all this B.S and just let people vote. Why would political power be based on how many mobs you grind? That doesn't make much sense.

This is awesome, it's like WOW meets the Roman Republic. Back then it was all about grain handouts for the plebs, now it's about kills for the arbitrary point system!

The EVE comparison is there because it mirrors the spirit of the EVE player's mindset... though the physical details are very different between the two games.

In eve, they introduced a new faction warfare system that awards you loyalty points for blowing up players in the enemy faction equal to the value of the stuff you blow up. So what does one block of EVE players do? Take a random item nobody trades in, and trade it back and forth at insanely high prices to drive up that item's average trade value. Then take an alt and load up cheap cargo ships full of this cheap-yet-considered-expensive item and blow it up, reaping the loyalty points. Repeat until you have billions of points, cash out and crash the general market with the goods that can be bought in the LP store.

So when Tera starts doing things like what the article describes... that is familiar territory for an EVE player.

Giving players any sort of power leads to abuse? No... I don't believe it!

Honestly they have the power to stop this exploit if they really want to. Assuming they don't get on it at some point, maybe they just want to create a mini political paradigm.
