So today I realized that there are two games that come out on the first, both of them have content for pre-ordering that I would like to have, but I only have enough money for one, and I'm having a hard time deciding which to get. The first is Sniper Elite V2 which I have formed my own opinion about by playing the demo and reading reviews for the original, the other game is Tera which has intrigued me ever since I heard about it but I haven't been able to play it personally however I know there was several betas and early access for pre-orders, so I was wondering if any escapists who had the chance to play Tera could share their opinions on the game.

tl;dr is Tera any good?

Do you like WOW? because it looks like another WOW clone to me.I have to admit, I like the aesthetics of Tera though.

but yea, the quests seem just as grindy as the ones in WOW

I actually despise WoW but it has nothing to do with it being grindy, and everything to do with the boring auto-attack based "take turns kicking each-other in the shins" combat, and Tera's primary selling point is that it has more actiony combat that relies somewhat on player skill rather than being almost entirety about the numbers.

It's decent, the combat is fun and the huge world bosses are quite epic, but there's a lot of grind and gear affects the outcomes of fights too much in PvP. I don't know they developed such an interesting combat system only to shit all over it with such a high gear cap. Also, the community is fucking terrible. I'd recommend it if you like PvE, but for PvP it's so flawed that only morons from Aion or something would ever take it seriously as a skill based game.

Yeah not much interested in the game but it's not a wow clone. The quest system in the game may be similar but the combat is much different. It's not hokey based there is a combo system and less abilities that interact with each other more. It's not a wow clone, but I don't play MMO's anyway anymore so I don't care.

Apparently there's a bit of a "why don't you have a seat over there" factor with Tera, so I'd say Sniper Elite.

To me, it looks like another grinder, except with with better combat.

Which will only make grinding slightly less monotonous.

That and sexy fanservicely loli things are probably the best reasons people have to play the game. If you like lolis, Tera will clearly make grinding more fun.

Oh yeah, I hear that there's a political system, but I doubt it is that amazing, since they're focused on promoting the fact that it has "action combat". So it's... a loli grinder. So if you don't mind grinding as long as it is action combat and you like lolis or women with big tits, it's an MMORPG for you.

I mean, whatever the gameplay, those are some pretty high definition lolis. You're not going to have too many chances to do that.:p

I guess it does have a little bit of a Monster Hunter element to it, if you like that.

I tried the beta weekend thing and... it was alright I guess, but it's just more of the same; a world and story I could give two shits about along with the typical grindy asian mmo design, its only interesting perks are the combat and guild political system, besides that nothing amazing and something I won't be buying.

The questing system couldn't possibly be more run-of-the-mill and the story is somewhat non-existent. The combat is very well done, though, it's fluid and very fun. Also the game looks gorgeous.
But while I love both the combat system and the aesthetics the game lacks too much in the questing department which is nothing more than an excuse for grinding, at least for me, which is why I prefer GW2 (apart from the subscription fees, that is).

Just watch some gameplay videos and decide for yourself, by now there's more than enough footage and reviews to get a good picture about the game.

Played the Tera beta. Was just as boring and grindy as WoW. They try to make a big thing on the combat being action based but there is little skill or reaction time involved; Honestly if you want an action mmo I would reccomend dragon nest, yeah its repititive but the combat is SO much more satisying.

Either that or wait a good 6 years for me to finish my game design courses, start my company and make that fable-esque (fable one mind you) mmo I have always planned. Hopefully we will have the technology by that time to make latency a non-issue.

I thank everyone for the responses, and I have decided to stick with sniper elite V2 for now, one big reason being that it occurred to me that so many MMOs flop and end up with super small player counts or shut down outright, so i'll come back to Tera in a couple of months and see what the player base looks like. The other reason is that a game would have to be all around excellent to overcome my hatred of single game subscription fees, and "the combat is OK" doesn't cut it if I'm expected to pay over a hundred dollars a year.
