I have had this endless row with all my friends, who say it will be rubbish. All because terminator 3 was bad. But what they dont understand is that its basically a new saga, like starwars. Except it starts at the beginning.
Am i alone in thinking its going to rock?

From what I've seen it looks pretty ace.
You can't really compare it to T3 as Salvation takes the series in a completely new direction.
Definitely gonna go see it.

The Star Was beigining saga was not exactly good...

It was bad...make it horrible.

Edit: And considering that A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are the only two good solid SW movies I'm not giving much hope to the new Terminator movies.

Yes, T3 was pretty awful. But from what I've seen, Salvation looks to do what TV show is doing and reboot the franchise. They've scrapped Arnold, the only remnant from the atrocious third movie seems to be Connor's wife, and the stuff with a machine who thinks he's human is very reminiscent of ground the TV show is currently covering. The original two Terminator movies were so good because they were thoughtful action movies. Like the first Matrix, there was a philosophy behind them that actually encouraged you to question the plot and characters. The third one was more spectacle, just going through the motions and missing the point of the first two in a big way. Yes, to avoid a paradox in the Terminator timeline, war with the machines would have to be inevitable. But it came in such a hollow, meaningless way in T3 that it destroyed the sacrifices of the first two films. From what I've seen of the fourth movie, it looks to care a bit more about the franchise as art instead of just spectacle.

Of course, I'm also a huge fan of the Sarah Connor Chronicles, so it will be interesting to see how the continuity changes through the different mediums. In TSCC, T3 is non-canon. It would be cool if Salvation did that too, but I think they'll have to build off of some of the plot points raised. Hopefully they'll just do it in an interesting way.

As long as Bale can keep his diva temper in check it should be ok :)

As for T3, check out Fanedits.com (I think!), they make the film actually watchable!

I'm gonna say 'woo, brainless action movie!'. and hope it's along the lines of Arnie n Die Hard rather than T3, MI:3 and Segall...

I conflicted myself. On the one hand, I really hope that it is a reboot and the new film manages to capture back what T3 lost. That there are some really good writers and actors involved with the film, and that they have constantly rewritten the script as the viewed it as not as good as they could do gives me hope.

However as Nmil-ek has said:

It could just turn out to be a dumb action movie. I've already had my expectations ruined recently. I'm still recovering from the Casino Royale to QoS change from the bond films. I'm not getting my hopes up. Especially if it turns out that the use of one of my favorite songs in a trailer was misused.

Call me hopeful, but Christian Bale did wonders with the Batman movies, so I can't help but reserve a small glimmer of anticipation. Granted, there have been hundreds of instances with a great star actor and.. well.. that's it. I know one actor does not make a good movie, but then, I had almost no hope in Batman Begins, and look how that turned out.

Terminator 3 was fine. It wasn't nearly as good as the first two movies, but it was still a solid film in its own right. Just the fact that it 'wasn't as good' causes most people to dismiss it. I mean, the guy who made the first two movies and started the franchise liked Rise of the Machines. Methinks a lot of people approached it with a closed mind.

Anyhow, I am highly skeptical about Salvation. It removes the interesting time travel aspect in what appears to be an attempt at closure we don't need. Same problem as the TV series. Still, at least with film they can't get away with 20 hours of nonsense and pointless filler.

See, I disagree on both counts. Even if you were to judge T3 on its own, the acting, plot, and philosophy are all lacking. It was pure fluff, pure spectacle. And while that might be fun for some people, I want a movie to do more for me than just make me count the number of times stuff blows up.

And I think the TSCC is one of the best programs on American television right now. It reminds me of the original movies crossed with a Philip K. Dick novel. It questions reality, heroism, and the nature of humanity. Gold star right there. Plus it features a real black-and-gray morality, and a setting where anyone--and I do mean anyone--can die at any moment. Instant drama. Of course, airing on FOX on Friday nights, I'm not optimistic it's going to last...

All that needed to be said is said here. I have some hope for its success, but I said the same for the Star Wars prequel trilogy before it came out.

It looks pretty good so far.

When I went to see T3 with my friends we treated it as a comedy and were laughing quite a lot during the film.

So the Terminator overcoming the restraints of being a machine, the realization of how great a computer-based enemy can truly be and that behind every great man is a great woman and great people, three elements of the film that I thought of off the top of my head, don't make your think? The acting was lacking, true, but by that it just wasn't really all-star performances. Arnold and Loken both did great jobs at being humanoid machines.

Oh TSCC does have great moments, but the inherent flaw is it tries to be both a serial and have thought-provoking stories, the latter of which falling flat and hurting the former. Major parts of the story that one would think should have more impact clearly don't when they can take an episode to do something entirely irrelevant. Most of the episodes in the first season were fine, though I was highly critical of the initial Turk arc as I thought its initial presentation was terrible. Granted that arc later proved to be incredibly important, but sloppy initial execution does not help. Even worse was in season 2, the episode that appears to of been 'nothing but a dream.' The subject material was interesting, but shoving the bit into the middle of serialized show with no real relevance is just awful.

I'm going to see it even though I hated the 3rd one. The first 2 are just pure amazing. Cinematicly speaking and what they did for cinema and how they pushed boundaries for the years they were produced/released in. I'm not a major Bale fan but I definitely will see it.

It certainly has the potential to be a very good film, but I'm not holding out high hopes, as we all know how it's going to end. From The Terminator:
Kyle Reese said:
Their defence grid was smashed; we'd won.
So unless they're going to directly contradict what happened in the first movie - and, given that it's about time travel, that is, admittedly, a possibility - there aren't going to be many surprises.
