Hey guys, I was just remembering a discussion I saw up a few months ago consisting mainly of people bitching about regenerative health systems and then other people defending regen systems and bitching about fixed health systems. Then I was watching GG's (Aussie games show) review of Terminator Salvation, in which they mentioned that it featured a unique health system where your health only regenerated after a firefight had finished. I think this, coupled with a good saves system (to ensure that losing a firefight doesn't set you back to much in terms of gametime) could make a pretty good system, removing the frustration of the old system while conserving the element of desperation in shootouts by getting rid of the "run away and regen" ethos (the best of both worlds, you might say. You might, but I won't, not having played the game; this is pure speculation). I understand that the game wasn't anything special, but what do you think of this take on regenerative health? do you think it should be utilised?

You'd still be able to run away and regenerate unless the developers force you to follow a linear path and prevent you from running back, or they make the AI follow you to the point where you're basically carrying a huge sign saying "SHOOT ME I'M HERE".

EDIT: Obviously I haven't played the game, but there aren't a lot of things a developer can do to prevent a player from running away. It's either a "has fired near enemies" check, or an "is near enemy" check, if it is a "enemies alive" check, it would be horrible if an enemy glitched and fell through the ground or is stuck inside a building.

Well it sounds decent enough, but I don't understand why everyone has to have health regen. if it doesn't regenerate during a firefight, why don't they just litter the place with health packs, it makes it more tense (and yes I know they say 'it breaks the action up, but you could easily put it in storehouses that are obvious to the eye)
