Dedicated Elitist PC Gamer here, and I don't mind. At least the development focus was on PC; it means they were able to fix many of the problems that it likely had when it first came out. Now it's a good game that'll be available on all systems. Great.

Personally I got my moneys worth out the game, happy enough with my purchase at launch (no sale / discount or suchlike ).

I can sort of understand why Red is getting this flak though, as it has been pointed out a few times Red announced he was moving on and not working on Terraria, concentrating on his family... and now he announces the game for consoles ?
Add to that he put his PC centered fanbase into hype overdrive with his mysterious announcement... which was to port the game to consoles.

Well I hope the console players get a decent port, it is a fun game if somewhat slow to get going.

JOURNALISM! Seriously, you start off with that? Great job increasing page hits there, buddy. And about the topic itself, wow. So some idiots on facebook start bitching about a game port. Wow, the world stops turning in awe. But hey, at least we can use that to throw a bit of fuel into the fire with a bit of pointless name calling for the sake of ad revenue. Newsflash, this isn't PC exclusive stupidity. It's the whole, entire gamer scene including its self-appointed journalists that needs to grow the fuck up.

And Andy continues to be the shittiest reporter on the Escapist. Gold star, bud. How many of those nutty PC gamers are there anyways? A thousand? two thousand? Big fucking whoop.
He changed it from this

That's not what I heard, but it's good to know that this isn't the case.

If the current abandonment of PC version is to be reversed and the new content will be egalitarianly available for all versions, then there is nothing to complain about...

... if what you say is actually true.
"Stop what you're doing immediately - we have very important news - TERRARIA IS COMING TO XBLA & PSN WITH BRAND NEW CONTENT"

Is literally all the info we have. Nothing else. It may imply exclusivity as well as just new content to the game that is going to see the release on PC.
The inferences are clear.

PC version has been all but abandoned in updates.

Console release has "new content".

Developers have a responsibility to be clear. Remember what Jim Sterling said about the value of whining.

Andy always has this. It's like PC gamers murdered his family and raped him or something.
He edited it at least. Give credit where credit is due.

It's a bit much expecting an apology for his words and there is always the far more vocal Jim Sterling on this side who is both a big proponent of PC gamers and of whining by consumers in this.

Jim Sterling has a regular video slot and Andy has the occasional column, I can't fault escapist in their management of things... though I do see certain room for improvement.

There is nothing wrong with someone being a particular proponent of one platform (whether PC, Xbox or Wii), but threads are inevitably going to be derailed with inflammatory characterisation of other proponents.

Its great news that its coming, hopefully it will be good and not quite so weak as the minecraft port.

However PC gamers should be getting this content for free. At the same time im seeing some hypocrisy here, when it was announced the Dark Souls DLC was free for PC gamers I critisized it in the same way and I had everyone here telling me just why I was wrong. Now ive changed my stance but the sentiment here is that PC gamers must get the content for free, but its fine to force console gamers to pay for the Dark Souls DLC. Can someone explain to me how this is not hypocrisy?
PC gamer bought an unfinished, buggy product with little content with a promis that they will get every future update for free. There will be lots of new content, changed. Frequent updates.

Console gamer will get a finished product with extra content.

That's why it's not hypocritical that PC gamer get the content for free. They where promised that they will get it for free.

In DS case, console gamer got a finished product with NO promises at all. They got what they bought.

Also, PC gamer did NOT get the content for free. They payed 40 euro for a game that was less than 30 euro on consoles. The DLC costs 10 euro for consoles. In the end, it's 40 euro for consoles with the DLC.

So how's your attempt to get a job at Fox News going?

What an absolutely blatant and shameless nerd-bait attempt. Get off your damn high horse, Andy, because there are elitists in every single gaming format. PC gamers merely get the raw end of that deal because they are used to significantly higher standards and expectations.

I'm calling this article out for what it is: baiting with misleading and downright false information.
I couldn't care less about Terraria and how much of a [douche/non-douche] its developer is. Andy Chalk, on the other hand, can go shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

I'm happy that Terraria is branching out to the console crowd. It's a game that I've play a lot and a game I've really liked. I liked it so much I even bought the retail "collectors edition", and I have that silly little plastic pick-axe on my key-chain. The game deserves all the players it can get.

I'm a little upset at the fact that I don't know if I'll be able to get a hold of any of that new delicious content. I only have the PC, you see.

I'm VERY upset(and pretty ashamed) at the fact that gamers as a group apparently can't be civil. Hate gets thrown around so easily and the "console/PC-war" is getting ridiculous and ugly. I was fed up with it years ago, and now look at us. If it isn't Dark Souls, it's this. What will happen tomorrow? Will I be assaulted on the streets because I have WASD tattooed on my fingers?

Guys... this is why we can't have nice things. This is why people don't respect our culture.

I don't see a problem, not just here, but with ANY kind of port. I don't get why people want others to NOT have the same enjoyment that they derive from a game.

Let me see if I can summarise.

Developer: I'm ceasing development of Terraria guys, I need to take a break and recharge. Sorry no more patches.
Gamers: Oh damn, well Terraria was great, sucks you couldn't finish it but we understand you got other things that need doing.

~Some time passes~

Developer: Hey guys, there's a big Terraria announcement coming! Super exciting!
Gamers: Yay, really? Oh awesome, can't wait to see what it is, but haven't you finished Terraria?

Developer: Hey guys, look, I've made a console version of Terraria with stuff you guys didn't get! Isn't that awesome!
Gamers: WTF dude, how is that awesome for us?

I'm kind of bored.

I don't give a fuck about what Jim said about whining and I think even less of whining than you can imagine. A normal put request with enough support from the community can achieve more than whining like idiotic babies.

And the PC version is not entirely abandoned. In the last post Redigit himself said that we can at least expect bugfix patches (which did not appear since then). As far as we know he just expanded the hotfix to a 'real' content patch (what does that even mean? We still know jack shit about what content it is going to be) and is just using advertising slurs.
Well I can't be bothered repeat what Jim has already argued, but really, petulant whining DOES work where polite requests and boycotts don't have any affect at all.

To summarise his comprehensive 7-minute long analysis, bad public relations affect games developers/publishers more than sales. Modern entertainment is ALL ABOUT publicity and bad publicity is a drain on them.

PC version has been abandoned in the sense of promised Features and content.

I've seen several people say the Devs failed to provide the substantial updates that they promised but I don't see it that way we got near a dozen separate free updates and the 1.1 update alone doubled the amount of content in Terraria.

Once again the vocal minority makes everyone else look bad. Not even sure why they are so mad, perhaps they were led to believe that developers were making some new content and then it turns out that its a port? Or they just assumed it themselves. Well, whatever, i guess i'll check out this game since a lot of people seem to be so attached to it.

If it means that Re-Logic have more capital to put into the new space-game thingy, that is good news. PC gamers enjoyed it, and console owners shouldn't have to fork out a small fortune to play it too. Also, if it has extra content, I'll get it for 360 too. :>

Ther is new content that will be on the port it is the same situation as Dark Souls except they haven't had the foresight to outright say it will be on one version or the other so they learned nothing there. Yet DS did get the content eventually like this probably will.

Wait...I freaked out, over this game? WTH?

This game isn't even on my radar at all.
