I've only played with my brother but i know some of the peeps here play the game. Check out the groups in the community tabs and see if there's a group for Terraria, I'd bet money there is.
It seems a bit wasteful to buy a whole server for a very small game, but it would be a lot of fun. Especially since the 1.06 update has extended the lifespan by a fair bit.
