Obviously after yesterday was 9/11 (11/09/2009) the 8th anniversary I thought I would get your opinion on terrorism over the past 8 years. Has it gotten worse or has it gotten better?

The numbers of terroris attacks against western targets has been reduced. The number of terrorist attacks worldwide has either remained unchanged or been on the rise.

Terrorism was horrible and will remain. Worst thing about it is that if you kill terrorists en masse, they will keep coming out of revenge, and if you do nothing, they will keep coming out of cockyness. Then there's whole "no moral restrictions" problem - if you must think about civilians and your enemy wants to murder them,it's kind of hard to wage war.

And "your terrorists are our freedom fighters" is an entire difficult issue altoghether - we have enough problems with madmen such as Bin Laden.

I don't see how it isn't a massive problem. In countries all over the world attacks are carried out by radical groups on a frequent basis.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Hezbollah has kicked Israel out of Lebanon in the 60s and did it again, and that much I can respect. At least they do good things for their people, build schools and stuff.

But Al Quaida, just a bunch of lunatics. Murdering their own people ( and failing miserably at hurting their enemies ) etc ... The Taliban, well, another group of miserable wackos who stand in the way of progression for the Afghans people.

Sorry I was thinking more on a local level such as United states and Europe. However you are right, mentioning the world opens it up a bit more.

Well if terrorism wasn't justified before, it certainly became that after the Bush administration let the Patriot Act pass. Luckily im not an american myself, because if I was one I'd have to become a terrorist myself as a response to such a travesty on democracy...

I still find it hilarious how quickly the America Goverment jumps from supporting terrorism to proclaiming it the worst thing in the world.

But I think its got better nowadays, the IRA hasn't been too active and the other terrorist groups are too stupid and keep getting caught.

Really the farther East you move the more frequent it gets, though that's not counting South America and Africa.

Yes, South Africa has gone down the shitter quite quickly. However, if you want really bad just check out some of the Favelas in Brazil.

It's funny in Europe and the US we are relativly lucky in the sense of terrorism isn't a huge problem. Whereas in these poorer nations it's a massive problem. I wonder why, is it just internal conflicts still raging, economical problems, religous and/or political maybe even rich countries fault where we have interfered?

P.S If you could give me a brief outline about Favelas you's be saving me some major wikipedia'ing.

Those are all very popular causes of terrorism. Usually, the poorer and more unstable the country the more likely armed factions will arise. For instance look at Africa. When the leadership (Euros) were removed everyone and their mother went for a power grab. Now we have multiple groups saying they rule the same countries and militias operating without any sort of government opposition.

Favelas are what ghettos would look like if the gangs organized and got their mitts on serious hardware. They are lawless shantytowns controlled by cartels that the police don't even try to clean out.

Yeah, I love how for America, terrorism only goes back about 8 years. They didn't think it was that bad when they were funding the IRA and groups like Black September. No sirre.
But that's a different issue altogether.

On topic, I would say the terrorist situation has got much better. Can't even remember the last time they hit an important Western target.
