Oh dear, what a hopeless thing to debate.
You can't call one state "better" than another. That's not how states work. States are places, with more people than you can guage or ever meet in one lifetime. How on Earth do you expect to objectively weigh up millions of people, a hell of a lot of square kilometres of land and industry in that single brain of yours?
Besides which, I find it hilarious how US-centric this topic is. You say, "Is Texas the best state?" I say, "Out of what? All of the US? The world?" You never did explain that. This forum's not just for Americans, you know. The rest of the world does exist, we have states in it. Be specific.
If you'd said, "Does Texas have the best self-sufficiency, or the best health/welfare, or the best Police force in all of the US?" then we might have something useful to say. But this thread is designed to be an ideological battle between people who don't realise what subjectivity is. If you don't get trolled before this thread dies, then this is the most peaceful forum I've ever been in. Of course, you might just be baiting yourself.
With that said, I can't imagine Texas being the best state in many ways at all. Culturally it's infamous outside of the US for being the place where That Arsehole George Bush came from, and other stupid cowboys who shoot first and ask questions later. The popular joke about things being bigger in Texas is really supposed to be ironic, pointing out how much people there have to compensate for not having big enough you-know-whats. But you see Texans on the Internet sometimes making the joke in all seriousness, thinking it's something to be proud of to be born in that state. That doesn't bode well for the educational system there, I'll tell you what.
