So lately I've been playing TF2 with some mates of mine. We use Skype to chat, and due to needing to sometimes accept calls and the horrors it was doing for my frame-rate I went and changed my resolution down (I think to 800x900) as well as selected the option to make the game run in a window as opposed to full-screen.

So I did this, and afterwards the game menu became an unworkable pile of shredded bacon. I shut it off then went back to it a while later, still looked just as bad (though oddly enough the startup screens for Valve and Source were just fine).

Now I figure the only way around this problem is to reinstall the game. Luckily I purchased it retail and still have the CD, so that shouldn't be a problem. I just want to be absolutely sure that reinstalling won't delete all my items or statistics or anything else of that nature (though I figure that's all probably part of my Steam account).

Your framerate issues could be the result of a recent update. As much as I love TF2, I'll readily admit that Valve hasn't been optimizing the game very well as of late. You can try reinstalling if you want, though I'm not sure if it will address the issue or not.

Don't worry about losing your items, Steam Cloud will remember your backpack inventory for you.
