If ever there was an add-on that screamed out 'gimick', this would have to be it.

Of all things why did they bother adding bloody hats to the game? (some of them even look like the hats the characters are already wearing, Soldier and Engineer particularly)

They couldn't have possibly done something useful with their time? Like make some goddamn updates for the 360 version?

Urgh... I'm not sure that's a positive thing. Plus, aren't these hats given out randomly just like the weapons now? You don't have to earn the right to wear them?

When you say boost crits d'you mean crits do more damage or there's more chance of them happening?

More likely.

most of them are ok, I do think an American football helmet is a bit stupid for the heavy though.

A little uninteresting actually. Useless if you ask me. The real question is why? Weapons are way more useful.

only thing i can say is that they ruined the game -_-
how so?
unlockables are supposed to part you in the game the fact that some people dont have them because they are too lazy to get that gives you the right of having them... but now all is in the hands of random choise and amount of time played. so in a very simple matter it means good players that dont have alot of free time to play are screwed because of this. and random weapons is just stupid o.o .
the hats might sound as a fun idea but common... not to mention pyro/engie/sniper/demo/soldier/scout already have hats and ones i saw dont look any better

Last time I played TF2, the game was still fun to play. And that was this afternoon.

Its not a broken unlock weapon system thats going to ruin it. Considering that most unlockable weapons aren't that good anyway.

see it starts with a broken unlock system but you can see they started to form the game into an mmo...few updates you'll have exp and lvls up to give your character certain power -_-
the game itself on the core level is totally fun i really like it and the achievement weapons were pretty good aswell. but now i need to spend hours just to get random items i dont want.

ps. pyros flare gun most excellent weapon. medics healing needle gun = life saver

This is just the same thing as a golden AK in CoD4 or a golden lancer in GoW2 - aesthetic things that you don't need. I'd like to see the hats change the gameplay in a positive way, but I have no idea how they'd get it done... What would they even do? Good for one free headshot? After that your hat gets knocked off and you're back to square one? Maybe the Heavy's could block out part of his vision but make his targeting reticule smaller as a bonus?
Why does everything have to change gameplay when there's already so much stuff altering the gameplay already? Some things are just meant to be cosmetic or prestigious. What's wrong with that?

There's nothing wrong with it, but I thought that they'd try and change the gameplay a little with them since that's what they've been doing in every update since launch.

Besides, the unlock system's still set on random (last I checked) - these hats aren't prestigious at all. I can understand someone working for a golden AK in CoD4 because they give it to you after a buttload of headshots and kills; I can understand waiting in line for the golden Lancer in GoW2 because it's a way of showing your support for your favourite game franchise. Right now, you'll only ever be in with a slight chance of getting one of the hats and even if you get one, it might be for a class you never use. You might get one after 2 months of playing the game; you might get one after 5 seconds of turning it on for the first time.

Considering how they couldn't shut up about their "silhouette recognition" design strategy when the game first came out, adding customizable hats and other accessories seems counterproductive.

Honest to God. If they're going to implement a ridiculous system such as this, why the hell not just GIVE everyone the weapons as default.

If they had just random hat drops, I wouldn't care. They do nothing. But having all 'unlockable' weapon's drop.... is just retarded. I have no idea how they could possibly claim to have thought this through.

I think they just tried to change too many things in just one update. The radically different weapon 'unlock' system and all these hats are all to sudden. I am not against change but this is all to much to handle for a game that was working perfectly well beforehand.
