Okay so, I am an average skill level player. I am a good sniper and scout but spy is my favorite to play. One problem, I have the worst luck in the world when it comes to being a spy. Even when I am just walking around in disguise doing nothing suspicious they will still somehow figure me out! I need help!

Try playing a more useful class.

It's harsh I know but since the Spyper update having 4 spies on your team constantly can get pretty annoying.

But since the Demo/Soldier update is coming you may be able to get into spy. It's mainly luck that'll get you through it to begin with. Just don't stay uncloaked for too long around enemies and attack quickly and suddenly then cloak to get away and return later.

Well, first of all you need to use the default watch and learn where the metal stacks are. You need to go out of your way to avoid everyone. Make sure you're out of view and earshot when you decloak. Watch what people are doing and adapt what you do to suit them. That's all what it's about really, keeping on your toes and always having an escape route. It mostly comes together after practice.

Learning the map always helps. Make sure your in a safe spot, behind enemy lines, before you uncloak. If you approach an enemy make sure people wont see you from behind. Pick your moment and make sure you've got the right angle for a backstab, there are few things more annoying than stabbing a little bit off onto the side of somebody, then getting found out and killed. But, like a lot of people have said, a lot of spy is luck.

Gentlemen!

Don't use disguise as much. Keep hidden. If you must go out in the open, act like you're not a spy. If I see a scout running towards me as an Engie, I'm gonna maul him because Scouts shouldn't do that.

Remember as well that people panic when they see a Spy close, in the same way as a Pyro, so don't be afraid to use this to your advantage.

Also remember than you often give away subtle clues if people are watching you closely, so only go in when they're already distracted.

If you leap out at them and drop dead, they're likely to suspect a Dead Ringer; however you can use the 8 seconds to get well behind them and then approach as a helpful medic or the like.

For those classes like Engie, Snipers or Heavy that really fear the Spy, decloak within range to draw them into attacking you just when the cavalry is about to turn the corner.

The thing to remember is that the best Spy kills are always "WTF?" kills. :)

Learn how the average TF2 player behaves and you will have the answer to your question. We spycheck all the time. We can NOT afford to have you sneaky bastards running arou- "looks behind and burns the fuck out of spy" -around!
