My problem goes like this: I start up TF2, choose a server, and join. However, after that, when I open the server list and refresh, nothing's there. I quit the game, and my internet browser doesn't work. Restarting the computer restores the connection, but still, it's a hassle. Has this happened to anyone else, and is there a solution?

I think we [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC] came up with something about this earlier.
@Dazz: Try opening these [https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711] ports.

I'm guessing "UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)" is the most important for your problem.

Although tbh I don't think that's the issue, but it can't hurt to try in the meantime until someone thinks of something.

I think your modem is getting flooded by the TF2 servers, I had the same problem when I got TF2. I solved it by allowing twice as many simultaneous connections to my modem than the factory settings (from 512 to 1024) and it seems to have sorted it. Some times the server list still doesn't update quite right on the first try but it works a lot better. If you can't access your modem, waiting 2 minutes for your modem to be ready again should solve it. Alternative work-around is to set TF2 to only detect servers with less than 50 ping.

This is also a good idea for any online game. Check http://www.portforward.com for info and guides to just about every modem and application.

I'm already part of the group, and by the way, this has only been an issue for the last few days.

EDIT: Actually, the problem seems to have resolved itself now. Thank you for your time.
