Well, since a couple days ago TF2 has been crashing at random points in time while I'm playing. It's the standard "hl2.exe has stopped working, 0790f09s8 could not be referenced at 1239581235" or something like that. I tried using -dxlevel 81 which apparently is the usual cure for it, I tried putting it in windowed mode, deleting my blobs, reinstalling Steam altogether, nothing's working as of yet. Anyone got some more ideas?

Oh yeah, and I've been through about 10-12 pages of Google, so don't say that either.

Does it loop the last played sound effect when it crashes?

Yeah, for about, pfff... 5-8 seconds. Something like that.

I notice you haven't stated whether you've tried reinstalling and verifying or not. If you haven't, go do that. Also try renaming your "team fortress 2" directory, and relaunching so STEAM can reacquire fresh files; then you can migrate old files that you really need, like your .cfg's and .bsp's.

Go to your Steam>username> Tf2 folder. Delete that. When TF2 starts again, it will have updated without any problems.

That's what I do when an update occurs.

But then I have to re-download the 2gb of files in there.

Oh, and verifying seems to have worked, I just played for an hour and a half with no problems. Sweet.
