Hey guys, I've been thinking of getting Team Fortress 2 for the PC for a while now. I've played the Xbox 360 version and love it but am really fed up with having to wait for updates etc.

It's all planned out except for one detail.

I have no idea if it will run (relatively) lag-free on my computer.

280GB Total HD Space
GeForce FX 5200
Pentium 4 2.80GHz Processor
512MB RAM
8M/bit Internet Connection

If thats enough to tell, then thanks. If not, then just say and I'll provide what info I can.

Gracias.

erm, probably will lag a bit because even my PC lags reasonably and it's totally better than yours (except the internet, mines shite), but then mine only does when I get killed... I'm not sure if this is also why I get killed.

"System Requirements
Minimum: 1.7 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX® 8 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection"

copy pasted from steam so judge for yourself.
if you don't already get steam before you buy it and then get it through there
atleast tahts what i'd do.
great game though, make sure you do find a way of playing it properly on PC

You need more ram, for the rest you are fine, just dont expect to max the grafics.

Ok, so I need to tone down the graphics before I play. Will having the minimum RAM cause too many problems or is it negligible in the grand scheme of things?

How laggy are we talking here? Because I'm going to be getting an Alienware desktop within 6 months or so and want to know if its worth getting some extra RAM or not.

I'm sure I'm not going to be the last person to tell you this but Alienware is overpriced crap.

The video card is going to be at least as much of a problem as the RAM. Another 512 megs of DDR is probably less than 20 bucks, but a new video card (assuming you have an AGP motherboard, which is likely) is significantly more expensive. Then again, if you can afford an Alienware you probably have money to burn :p

Cyberpower [http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/] does pre-builts a lot cheaper, or you can save even more money by building your own.

Yeah, building your own will always save you money on a powerful gaming PC, but a lot of people just don't want to put in the hour or two it would take to read a few simple part picking guides. I can understand if you're rather just pay a small (or large, in the case of Alienware) premium to have somebody else do it for you.

In all honesty, the game can be downgraded, but be warned, if the game doesn't recognise your graphics card (like it did with my laptop) by a new one otherwise it'll be rubbish

Tried it, and I can't get past the 'downloading' section. Is it meant to take a long time?

As a side note, I intend on getting a 512MB or 1GB extra RAM card and inserting those as an addition/replacement respectively. Will this sort out my problem anyone?

EDIT:- Can anyone verify that CyberPowerSystem are actually legit? Not trying to be funny or anything, just cautious (never heard of them before yesterday)

He was right. Alienware is overpriced crap.

RAM is cheap. Get two 1GB sticks and the game will look and run way better than your Xbox 360 version.
