So all the frequent TF2 players here will have no doubt noticed the new Shogun update that adds a few more items and the standard old bugfix routine.

Which are, in order:
-New Soldier banner. Seems balanced enough to me, but nobody uses banners anyway so who cares.
-New Scout bat. It looks underpowered, but then again, Scouts don't use melee much anyway... whatever.
-New Spy knife. Seems redundant to me, I suppose it's a good addition.
-New Soldier/Demoman melee. As if they needed another one, let alone one as overpowered as this. What the hell is Valve thinking?

But nobody cares about hats.

So yeah, post your opinions. Personally I reckon they could've done a hell of a lot better *cough empgrenade for demoman cough*, but whatever. I won't use these anyway, and should be able to get workarounds for defeating people with them. Except that fucking katana.

Ugh still no Meet the Pyro or Meet the Medic.

Ugh Engineer still has the least hats of any class.

Ugh people complaining about Mann Co. Store which can only cosmetically alter the game.

More of this item crap? I stopped playing this when it started and I see it keeps getting worse.

TF2 has become nothing more than an ad platform. I like the class updates, but now it's just out of control. Every big game that comes out has a pile of new items if you pre-order or get achievements or something.

I started playing because of Meet the Team, not because of hats and items. Valve? Please focus on making Meet the Medic and Meet the Pyro so the series can be complete.

I feel pretty jaded about TF2's current direction, though I must admit the new Spy hat is cool.

I agree. This is starting to get a bit nuts. However, at least it is better this time around. The items can drop instead of having to be bought either through the Man Co. store or obtained through the prepurchase.

I would wish that they could be crafted. But considering how nuts the Rift weapons' recipes were, I doubt I would be able to afford more than one or two by the end of the month.

At least the weapons are someone interesting this time around and will be more likely to be used than the previous promotional set.

I'd rather they scrapped some of these items when they introduce new ones. Having a few was alright but but since they opened Mann Co. Store, there is just too much.

I like the look of the Spy hat, though.

The Spy knife is useless, because even with full health, when they get spotted they get primary'd, and go down fast.

I actually don't mind all the new items. Most of the skilled players don't even use the new shit, it's all "vintage" achievement stuff like my lovely Huntsman. The game's still a lot of fun for me, but that might be because I take sadistic pleasure in hunting down the idiot scouts beating people with fish or other stupid items. Call me an elitist, but I have yet to meet someone who knows what they're doing with any of those bought items.

I don't understand why everyone's getting their knickers in a twist over new items.

The vast majority of items are either inferior to or just as effective as their vanilla counterparts. A lot of people like to claim that not having these items puts you at a disadvantage, but that's just not true. There are some exceptions: the Equalizer is a straight upgrade to the Shovel, the Wrangler is so much better than the Pistol and you'd only ever use the Bonesaw if you had no other Medic melee weapon to equip. But if you were to go Vanilla on every class, I guarantee that if you're a decent player, it'll matter little, and in a lot of cases help you. Vanilla Demoman is far more effective than Demo Knight, Vanilla Sniper is far more effective than Tribal Warior Sniper, to name two. Most of the vastly superior unlockables are obtained through achievements anyway.

You don't have to buy these new items if you don't want to and you can trade and craft to get those items for free. It is frustrating when new weapons come out and you have to wait ages before you'll be able to get your hands on one, but if you're only playing TF2 just to play around with a new weapon you really shouldn't be playing anyway.
