TF2's "Replay Update" Adds Video Recording, Movie-Making Contest

Valve's latest TF2 update adds replay recording and editing to the wildly popular multiplayer FPS, and Mann Co. wants to make you a star.

TF2 has many features that make it a great game, like clever map design and an obsession with hats not seen this side of Touhou Project, but one thing it didn't have was an auto-save replay feature or built-in clip editor, like those seen in games like StarCraft and Uncharted 2.

The "Noby Noby Boy [http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=5420].

As with most major TF2 updates, there's a the Saxxy Awards [http://www.teamfortress.com/meetthedirector/?p=1].

The Saxxy Awards show is a filmmaking competition similar to The Escapist's own annual film festival. Valve has asked for user submissions in twenty categories ranging from "Most Inventive Kill" and "Most Heroic" to "Best Editing," "Most Extreme Stunt," and the coveted "Best Overall Replay." The rules and regulations can all be found at the Saxxy Awards site [http://www.teamfortress.com/saxxyawards/].

I'm not sure what winners will get other than praise and a virtual statuette of a naked fictional Australian man, but hey, better that than nothing, right?

Also, the TF2 Replay Update will add more hats to the game. Of course it will.

Yes because every single idea and concept came from Halo.... i still remember the first game in the world Halo.... it was a revolutionary FPS in wich you played has a tottaly non-generic "Space Super-Soldier", to fight hoards of tottaly non-generic Aliens fighting the same Aliens trough every single game......

Dont know if i should laugh at you, or simply /facepalm.... i decided to do both...

That's just due to the bandwidth throttling. Should be fixed soon.

By the way,
Added are 10 New Hats, Including M. Bisons,
a new taunt: The Director's Vision,
8 New Achievements based on the editing and showing on YouTube.

You'll also need QuickTime installed, but I guess most people have that due to iTunes.

From guesswork made by the fans, the Saxxy will be a GoldAustralium statue in the style of the Golden Wrench.

Way to be a caustic jerkass. He didn't state it was from Halo, he just compared it to Halo's.

Took 'em long enough. But still, plenty of TF2 vids were made without it. Now there will just be more of them.

I mean, crap...Consoles have even managed this type of feature for quite a few games.

Don't laugh or /facepalm.

Try being less of a dick, instead!

Halo 3 really introduced the concept to the masses, and basically did start this type of mode. In a popular sense.

Acctually it came from a Mod for Half Life a couple of time before Halo time..... Bungie just grabbed a good idea and claimed has theyre own, and you all considered "if Bungie did it, then the idea was from them and only them"...

Yeap, made me drop out of the Escapist server an hour or 2 back. Damn shame that they've released the update like this.

Anyway, this all looks fun and all, but I ain't seeing any ingame additions, which I'd like to see. Except for the all important hats of course.

I know Halo didn't do it FIRST.

"The masses" implies that Halo is part of the reason it took off and is now in basically every major MP shooter franchise.

Replays were in StarCraft 1. 1998. Just saying.

Popularizing the concept does not equal creating it.

Starcraft which has a maximum of 8 players, versus 32 fully 3D objects?

And Doom had replays before that.

Right, I'm just saying, quibbling over where replays came from is an extremely dumb argument.

When did they "claim it as their own"? Just about every game, in the history of ever, liberally borrows concepts and features from games before it. Half life totally ripped off doom by your logic. And the original poster was just making a comparison to one of the more popular uses of it for clarity, namechecking the original isn't necessary in the slightest.

Say a game featured a portal gun, and someone said "oh like Portal?", would I come on and say "No, not like portal, Narbacular drop did it first. Valve just took the idea and claimed it as their own." No, I wouldn't, because that makes me sound like a combatitive ass. In fact, that's exactly what Valve did, since they hired the original members of that project. But Portal is the most famous example of a portal gun people can use as a point of reference.

Basically, my point is this: Don't be so unnecessarily hostile just because you have some beef with Halo.

what a douchebag, using a game you don't like as a frame of reference. I'm with ya buddy! where does he get off, trying to compare a game element similar to another game element, the nerve...

OT: so yeah, it's pretty much theater mode. i can handle that.
