i dunno about you guys, but Aus having that much influence...kinda make me feel powerful...

Although its not like they're gonna remove everything and completely break their own game.

I think it's great that Bethseda are so willing to stand behind the edits, and like someone had already pointed out in this thread the fake drug names make Fallout 3 more faithful to the first two. I see how it might annoy some people that the game is 'ruined' for everyone because of one man (literally, ONE MAN), but this really isn't the worst case scenario. The game is set to be absolutely amazing and I'm not going to lie awake at night because I have to use stimpaks instead of morphine.

Is long as it doesn't change the game too much why worry?

And I'm Australian so I apologize on behalf of etc. but wouldn't someone outside Australia eventually complain at some point and they would change the game worldwide anyway?

So this was probably going to happen to most countries at some point so don't blame us.

Sorry guys but a mod wont fix this unless you stumble across the original version of Fallout 3 and fixes all the changes. I doubt that will happen.

Anyway, as I said before, the changes must not ruin the game, otherwise we would not all have the same version. Why would Bethesda give everyone a horrible game when they could only give one of there smallest targets the horrible game?

The changes have not ruined anything, Fallout 3 will still rock. These changes are are mostly likely so that Bethesda can produce and ship the games without any major hassle over who gets what.

This game is tame enough to get past Australian Standards?

WTF did they do to Fallout?
Seeing as how we have the same version Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics I wouldn't worry.

Welcome to my world. New Zealand always has this happen to them. Despite the fact that we have a proper ratings system. If a game gets edited for Australia, we'll get that version of it.

I am hoping this issue will be brought further into the light, and we (Aussies) will finally be "granted" the privalidge of having the same access as most of the rest of the world..

*Means that Australia might get an R18+ classafication*

I'm sorta sad that the rest of the world had to be "punished" for our arcanian cencorship laws, but I think it will make those same people know how WE feel when this has happen the countless other times when we suffered in silence/alone in the past (Manhunt, GTA4, I even heard rumours we got scenes taken out of MGS4!!)

Tried a search and didn't find anything so...

"Fallout 3 product manager Pete Hines has confirmed that the changes made to Fallout 3, following issues with Australian censorship, will now be shipping worldwide."

Is there a precedent for this kind of thing? One countries' regulations effecting a worldwide release of such a high profile game (or in any other entertainment medium)? It seems a bit unneccessary to me and can only dilute the gritty, harsh atmosphere that I assume Bethseda has at least attempted to recreate in Fallout 3.

What is your reaction? And any Australians, how does it feel that your country appears to have had enough power to influence this?
I think it's just a matter of search/replace drug XXX with ZZZ. No big deal from a coding level, makes it simpler for the devs. I wouldn't read much into it, despite your attempts to see it as a political issue or whatever.

do you have Gears of War?
We do. In fact, you only have to be 15 to play Gears of War over here, not 17.

You have everything wrong my friend.

The rating a game is given is decided by a pannel of experts, who play the game (or know everything that is in it) then decide on a rating decided by a certain criteria.

For example:

"Does the movie in question have a hardcore sex scene?

Yes

Then it must be given an R rating."

However the games industry does not have that R rating, so we can only get games that are given the MA15+ rating or lower.

Whats stopping us from getting that R rating is that one man. He has nothing to do with the rating process of games and most likely has no idea what a gears of war is. However he (among others) makes the laws that effect the guidelines that determine the rating a game is given. He doesn't want an R rating so we don't get one.

fair enough, I'm not up to date on Aussie game rating system except "Aussies have a strange laws that get games banned constantly"

Thank you for the lesson, I may have sounded like a bit of an asshat, but I really didn't mean to.

So basically semantics throw a wrench in your system?

It feels great. Fuck you guys!

I'm only joking. I am a little bit glad that we don't have to have a lower quality game because we have a horrible ratings system. This is a sign that the changes in Fallout 3 are not so terrible that they will ruin the game, otherwise only Australia will be getting the censored version.
See GTA IV.

Hey no worries, dude, always happy to lend a hand to other countries :)
I must say I am surprised that a decision from our little country has effected others but its not our fault, yes our politicians are arseholes but in the end its the developers who decided to make the Australian release standard. Still, I'm sorta glad that gamers from other countries can now see how good they have it.

"He went on to explain: "An issue was raised concerning references to real world, proscribed drugs in the game, and we subsequently removed those references and replaced them with fictional names."

So all they're doing is changing the names of the drugs in game. Big whoop. I'm pretty sure most of us here are intelligent enough to realise what the white powder called 'Cocorn' actually is.

Hahaha! Now I'm not alone in my suffering. Take that world!

But seriously, I feel bad for you guys. Please don't wage war on us. All we have is lots of sand and dirt.
Which is a modest way of saying, "Our beaches are so nice, if you see one you will cry and kill yourself."
