You know, the one where you'll say you play Rock Band and they'll say why don't you just play the real guitar/drums?
Yes in most forums I talk about RB and how great it is I get told to learn how to play the real thing. BUT GUESS WHAT, MOTHERFUCKERS, I ALREADY DO!!! AND PRETTY WELL AT THAT!!! AND IT WAS RB THAT GOT ME WANTING TO DO REAL GUITAR, SO SHUT UP, BECAUSE ROCK NEEDS A LIFT RIGHT NOW, AND THAT LIFT CARRIES THE NAME OF GUITAR HERO AND ROCK BAND!!!

Phew, got it off my chest.

I'm not really either. I LOVE reading the books, but I also enjoy the movie. I bugs the crap out of me when someone drags on and on about how horrible the movie was because iddy biddy details were missed. Like, I love the Harry Potter movies and the books. I know some things were left out, but I still enjoy each as it's own entity.

It annoys me to know end when it comes to Twilight. I saw the movie because my mum and my sis wanted to see it and one of my best friends was going to make me watch it anyway. THE ONLY THING that movie has going for it is the love relationship. NOTHING else. My friend and my sis go ON AND ON AND ON about "Oh, this was so wrong" and "They left this out!" or "That is NOT how it goes." My point here: THAT'S WHY IT IS "BASED" OFF OF THE BOOK! SO STOP YOUR WHINNING! Finishing with that, there is far too much negative hype (in my opinion) on Twilight and I will, NEVER, for the life of me, read it.

However, going back to HP or The City of Ember, I love them. Both the books and the movies. The idea (for me) of the movie is to capture the adventure and the emotion the book gives you. It is not meant to stay super glue close to the book. With the City of Ember, some things were left out that I thouroughly enjoyed in the book. But all in all, those little things don't matter, I still came out feeling the same after watching the movie as I did when I finished the book. Sometimes, you just have to find a balance between the two and not get so caught up in one or the other.

"Intents and Purposes
The correct phrase is "to all intents and purposes." This phrase dates back to the 1500s and originated in English law, where it was "to all intents, constructions, and purposes." In modern usage, "for all intents and purposes" is also acceptable. The phrase means "for all practical purposes" and is generally used to compare two nonidentical acts or deeds, i.e., "She went to his room and drank with him, which he viewed to all intents and purposes as consent to sex." A shorter equivalent phrase is "in effect."

When used in a strictly legal sense, the wording would be "intent and purposes," as it refers to one's mental attitude/state at the time said action occurred.

A common malapropism is "for all intense and purposes", (also, "for all intensive purposes") a result of the original phrase being misheard and repeated. The word "intense" is used here incorrectly; "intense" is used in English to indicate a degree of intensity, i.e., "As the afternoon passed, the fire grew more intense.""

I am that guy who corrects people about this kind of useless crap on the internet. Other than that, though, movie adaptation-phobics needs to to calm down and understand that a movie that accurately depicts the world of Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings would be boring. The Guitar Hero people need to understand that not everyone has the time and talent to be a rockstar, and the simulation is a fun way to achieve that feeling much quicker, even if you don't play those instruments.

What really pisses me off is that guy that always needs to one-up everyone present, even if unprovoked. For those of you who read Dilbert, think along the lines of "Topper." Someone who walks by the lounge where you and some buddies are playing Brawl, and proceeds to give advice, state how good he is, etc., unsolicited, and uses as many acronyms and as much unnecessary jargon as possible to sound knowledgeable. The best gamers I've met don't do that, but the second-best and below generally do. I would like to state, here on this thread, to all of you who are reading these posts ans thinking to yourself "well at least I'm not that guy," please make sure, because I'm sure that that guy doesn't think he is who others have categorized him as.

I'm that guy in a few regards... Like, I diss Cooking Mama all the time because you make fake food and get fake results whereas real cooking is more fun and you get real food.

But I know people worse than me. Especially when it comes to Rock Band/Guitar Hero. I just wish they'd shut up.

I have never met 'that guy' who really hates Halo and GTA games with a passion. Seem to be oodles of them on this forum though :(

But saying that I have run into 'that guy' who are the types in which the only FPS they have played is Halo and don't shut up about the game because of that.

I'm also not sure you've correctly used the term "knob" either. I'd think "asshole" would do the job nicely, though.

I actually have a question about the books. I heard that Faramir had no urge to take the ring from Frodo. Is this true? Was he more powerful than all other men in that he had no actual desire for the ring?
You can look it up on wikipedia if you'd rather not research the books but yes, Faramir refused the ring. It was a moment to set him apart from his brother Boromir.

Someone here said they thought Jackson did the best he could. Um, no. Jackson did a great job for the most part. Unfortunately Frodo is just not the same character. Jackson made some changes that seriously affected Frodo's motivations. Motivation is a integral part of character. If the characters aren't the same anymore you've lost an integral part of the story.

On GH: Like I said before, I only ***** when someone playing GH or RB thinks they're suddenly a real musician. The two are NOT the same. Case in point:
Slash thinks GH is cool but he has one *****. The game is a pain for him at the harder levels. Pisses him off when some kid beats him. As he explained it, playing GH and playing a real guitar are two different skills.

I'm a 'that guy', playing guitar for real is far more fun and interesting that playing with a plastic rip off. One of the best experiences you could have is writing songs then playing them live, Guitar Hero and Rock Band cannot give you that.
I want to shred it up like Ygnwie Malmstien, and real guitar can't do that.... at least not with me playing.
LOL Ygnwie can't even do that! :p

But yeah, I've been playing guitar for nearly 5 years and I also love guitar hero/ rock band.

However, I dislike both the film and book of LOTR.
Stephen Kings Dark Tower series is much better.

i'm afraid that i might BE that guy.

i hate going going to movie adaptations of books, because they always mis out HUGE chunks of the plot, or screw up really simple details, plus i feelt that if you can read the book, and immerse yourself in it, then you shouldn't need to see the movie, because:

A) you've already created your own image of the characters as you see them
B) the book will always be better
C) no film can ever live up to your own perception of the book

i learned that after Harry potter 2 film, and it was an even harder blow on the 4th film, where they re-write a vast chunk of it (though i must admit, i'm really not that fond of HP anyway)

it is also worth pointing out that i no longer go to these movies, and advise others against it as well, until they've read the book first

Mostly people who say that Greenland is icy and Iceland is green. I'm not a fucking idiot, everyone has known that fun fact for fucking years.

And anyone who ever uses the term "well, technically," because that's just the introduction to a douchebag rant about stuff. Such as the "Well, technically, you're not fighting ZOMBIES per se in Resident Evil 4, just infected citizens." Who cares?

C'mon you lot, we need more great song writers, sick of all weak pop stars!
I play Guitar Hero and real guitar, thank you very much. I'm quit good at both of them.

All the girls I know read it. Whenever they talk about it, it's like it's the only book on Earth. I ask them why I should read it and the responce I get is "I don't know. I can't explain it, you just should." For a person like myself, that is enough of a reason for me NOT to read it.

I think I might have heard that it was based off something like that? I also heard that there's nothing really special that makes the series amazing other than the love relationship and Edward's character. I've heard is was very poorly written. Although, I've never gotten any feedback or bothered to look into any of those.

It's a shame that it's a rip off like that. Kinda makes me think that, well, must not be THAT great of a writer then. And slightly makes me think of how under-read we are.

I am kind of "that guy" when it comes to the Resident Evil movies. Why they didn't go with the game story I will never understand.
