That One Guy

There's a guy like that in our group.

He used to be a good guy. (Seriously, we got into an argument once and he asked, "We're friends; why are we fighting?")

Now he's just a dickwad. He has these stupid arguments that he uses to allow him to get everything he wants, but when someone else uses them, he uses the arguments we use against his ideas against us when we try to get him on it, and when we point out that he's being a dick, he calls us dicks and says he "doesn't give a fuck."

You know, the guy who tries to get all the neat loot, but when someone else tries the same, he says they're being greedy. He thinks it's okay to break game systems (like D&D) because the game allows it. ("Well, I should be able to keep my 18, 18, 16, 14, 15, 16 character, because I rolled it fairly. If you rolled all threes, that sucks for you, but that's how the game is.")

But so many people hang out with him so goddamn much, and he has them convinced that he's not an asshat. I think mean people with lots of charisma should be shot outright. I mean, seriously, they're the worst people you can find! Look at Mr. Hitler for an example!

Anyone notice that most of the people that put no charisma points into their characters during RPG's of any sort usually seem nicer? Or is it just my experience?

I have a friend like that - the great thing is though it annoys them more if you mess with their game and that makes us all feel better.

So I encourage you disconnect their controller, keep pressing start and generally mess with them at every turn in a childish way - It's what they deserve!

I actually meant "charisma" as the actual real-life trait, but...

Yeah, I'd say that's mostly true about game charisma. Something having to do with roleplaying ability (good roleplayers tend to go for a flaw in their characters, and playing low-charisma is fun) and its correlation with how fun the person is to be around in real life.

I had a friend like that. He is a graphic whore. He constantly ***** and whine about games because they don't do what he wants them to do.(Wait, what?) He bought GTA 4 a while ago, and he told me how realistic it was. "The graphics are so awesome. People in the game act so realistic." I responded: "OK, but what about the gameplay?" Then he said: "yes, what about it?"
I never hang out with him anymore. He's a douche in every way.

By that one guy you seem to mean an asshole who nobody likes. Solution: tell him he's an asshole who nobody likes.
All of my friends tend to have pretty good taste in video games, and what IS bad taste we agree upon but enjoy it anyway. I have no problems with gaming with my friends. The problem is that there's always that "one guy" who plays like a cheap bastard, and even that is solvable.

I totally know where you're coming from. My two friends and I used to hang out with a fourth much like the person you've described. He was also the type who would stop playing the minute he started losing, or worse, start killing himself, ie, running right off the ledge in Smash Bros. or sticking himself with grenades in Halo.

Around March, we realized what a douche he was and decided to stop inviting him to hang out. Unfortunately, he never really got the hint. I remember on the night Smash Bros. Brawl was released, he stood outside my door ringing the bell, knocking and calling my cell phone for a full hour and a half. He knew my two friends and I were inside because of how vocal we had been about the game moments before he arrived. It was a little creepy, actually. He finally left after we started answering my cell phone by yelling "LAND MASTER!", "AETHER!" or "I FIGHT FOR MY FRIENDS!" into the reciever and then hanging up.

Good times.

Actually I think it's brilliant. the internet gives them a place to carry out all these stupendously idiotic acts without affecting our daily lives. we also get to have a good laugh at them in the process.

If the game is yours, you should always be playing on hard, why? Because that way you'll get the most play time out of it...
