Am I the only one having had enough problems with this little vital part of machinery to turn a deep love of the PSP into a flaming hatred and an urge to throw the console into the nearest wall, laughing with unholy glee as the shattered screen and broken plastics scatters over the entire room?
Haven't actually done that yet, but every time I pick up that Piece of Shit Product I want to smash it...violently...and I used to like it SO MUCH.
After owning it for just a few months, the analog stick started to pull to the right, constantly. Consulting internet forums, I used the first suggested remedy - tighten the screws on the case - which fixed the problem for all of five minutes. Next step was to dismantle the thing and clean the little silicon connector (have you had this problem, you know exactly what this part looks like) and then put it together again. Easy to do, but putting the PSP together again without getting any dust under the screen took eleven attempts or so. The actual cleaning didn't make it better for long either.
So I bought a new analog stick and replaced it. Worked perfectly, for a month. Then the controls were worse than ever, and an inspection revealed that both the plastic screwholders on the stick had snapped clean off, despite me tightening the screws as little as possible before (and not actually PLAYING for more than a few hours). I got a free replacement from the store (thank heavens, SOMETHING good at least) and this one fixed the problem again. (Bear in mind, every single opening of the machine cost me 5-10 minutes of making sure no dust got in/got left in. Fun.)
A month later, the drifting was back. After a few rounds of cleaning/good performance for 10 minutes, I was totally out of patience. I will not spend another minute trying to fix it. I also hate my PSP with a passion, despite being one of its staunchest defenders in the beginning. Not even Loco Roco 2, which doesn't require the analog stick, was any fun to play - simply because it was on that odious little system. I loved the first game, but simply having to use the PSP sucked all the fun out of the sequel.
Anyone else had similar problems? I know there's a lot of hate for the PSP, and a year ago I would have said "for some reason". Now that I know at least one reason, I can see their point of view.
