Simple question fellow Escapists.

Do you believe there are topics that should never, ever be the subject of jokes or comedy?
And, to clarify, I mean general topics.
I understand that it's not really cool to laugh at a mother who just had a miscarriage, but in general would you consider that "un-touchable" by comedy?

Personally, I don't think that you should "black-list" any subject for humour.
You should be careful who your audience is, but I don't consider any topic taboo.

Do you?

No topic is really untouchable; it's really just a matter of who can make fun of it. It comes down to a sense of ownership, in my opinion. So a black person can make jokes about black people, a disabled person can make jokes about disabled people, etc...

I think South Park said it the best, you cant have anything be off topic when it comes to comedy otherwise eventually everything will be. i.e If you cant make a joke about Islam then it would be a double standard to make a joke about Christians. By all means, do be mindful of your audiance but nothing can ever be so taboo that you cant joke about it.

No, but I do think around friends you should be careful what jokes you make. Comedians can do what they want, if you don't like their humour you can turn it off. If a friend has lost a parent or whatever recently then you want to be careful about making jokes about stuff like that... Bad example because I can't think of a single joke to be made about the death of a parent but you get my point. Basically, in broad terms everyone should be allowed to joke about what they want.

EDIT: First time I've seen this error message...
"We're sorry but the current forum traffic is overloading the thread display hamsters. Your posts and votes will still be recorded, but may not be immediately visible. Please do not spam the thread in an effort to view it, it will only make things slower. In the meantime, consider the walrus."
Brilliant.

Not really no.

Some people will argue otherwise but no matter what anyone thinks there is always someone somewhere that will mock a tragic event and other people will find it amusing.

Personally I think as long as it's funny then nothing is taboo.

Who cares if it's a touchy subject as long as it gives you belly rumbling laughter.
