That's not an anniversary...

How many of you have come upon an instance where someone - typically a moron - decides to announce they'll be celebrating their 'three month anniversary' - or any other variable below a year - with their most recent 'forever beloved'? Why don't these people get it? Am I right, and they're just morons, or is there something I'm missing here? I've never heard of anybody who celebrates their birthday every three months just because the day happens to be the same number as their birthday.

Although I'm sure there's someone.

Does this irk anybody else? I know it's something ludicrously petty to be annoyed by, but it's still something. The prefix 'anni' is of course attached to 'annual' which in turn means 'yearly'.

... Sincerely, Captain Obvious

Some people just need to get it right.

Oy.

You may now begin discussions and berations if you so desire.

Hey, celebrating various anniversary with your latest beloved is basically an excuse to get guaranteed sex.

I had felt the need to point out that it came from the Latin "annos"...

But anyway, let them be happy.

That's not fair, you killed the thread before it had the chance. Anyway, it's more about the improper use of this particular word than anything else, and people using it in the wrong context...

Kinda like that time I heard a woman on the bus suggesting she wanted her child to learn 'Proper Australian' before any other language. Yeah.

And I don't see where I refuted this. Still means yearly either way...

Wasn't refuting you, was refuting those who use "anniversary" incorrectly :p

She was a bogan thinking 'Proper Australian' was just English. Also, I've overheard her conversations on the bus before - hard not to when someone's that loud - and she doesn't seem like the intellectual type, if you get my drift. So it wasn't exactly a surprise, just amusing.

But, uh... I digress.

Perhaps they just feel it's an amazing achievement that someone has put up with them for a whole damned month? :D
I'm afraid people misuse the English language horrifically nowadays. IRONIC EH?

My ex gf and I used to do it. Every month we'd buy each other a bracelet. At one year we got each other a really nice piece of jewellery. She got me a bracelet engraved with my name (in case I forgot it?)
We did last 18 months and stopped doing the month anniversary thing after the one year mark

My current gf don't celebrate every month but if one of us notices on the 25th of every month then we just point it out to the other

On retrospect the bracelet thing was extremely sad

Well, for months it's usually just "Woah, we've been together for 5 months! It didn't feel like that long at all".

Like that.

It's common to measure milestones in months before you get to your first year. What's the big deal?

Yeah, who cares if it isn't an actual anniversary.

Come on man, getting pissed because people are having fun celebrating (regardless of occasion)? seriously, get over your self.

Was that ending remark absolutely necessary? Seems to be taking it a little far, don't you think? Though I suppose I did suggest allowance of insults towards the end there...

This post wasn't meant to be taken entirely seriously, as such it is merely an irritating observation. I guess acknowledging what words actually mean is blasphemous or some such...

Yeah, i don't like it either. Anneversaries (can't spell that word) should be celebrated the first year, and then the 5th, the 10th, the 15th and so on.

Wasn't an insult, but yes it was necessary.
